The best bar in Alfred, New York, period.

The bar is dark, narrow, and deep. It opens up in the back to a brighter area where there are booths and 2 pool tables. The bar is long and always full on Wednesday through Saturday nights. Behind the bar are a few coolers full of the Beer Tour beers. That's over 100 different bottled beers from all over the world. Buy all 100 and get a t-shirt, mug, and your name on a plaque in the back room. Always a good time.

They also cook fresh pizza in the back. The pizza is amazing to say the least.

Thursday nights aka "Mug Day" they fill your 32 oz mug with natty ice for $1. That's right, a gallon of beer and 2 slices of pizza for less than $10.

This is a dark, run down looking place, but something you'd expect for a college bar. It is pretty big with a long bar and plenty of seating. I've been to Alfred twice and made sure to come back the second time.

Like everyone else says, lots of bottles and a good selection of taps. They also rotate in seasonals (oktoberfests and pumpkin beers while I was there). I was pretty much the only person there on my visit so the service was great. You order pizza in one area of the bar, then go grab a beer at the bar. My bartender was knowledgable about beer, and she was very nice.

I'm giving the selection a 4.5 because you won't find a better selection in this area.

I really like the pizza. $2.25/slice for pepperoni and they are a good size. 2 is more than enough.

This place is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Located in Western New York in the small quiet town of Alfred, this place is the only Ale House with a selection of more than 100 beers + 20 on tap within 60 miles. The 100+ selection of Bottled beer changes at any time and they have a Beer tour for all those looking to broaden there horizons on craft beer atop the on tap beer changing with seasons! It's a college bar so expect a college atmosphere but the bartenders are very knowledgeable on all the beer sold. The bar also has a Pizza shop inside that makes some of the best pizza in the area as well as two pool tables and a bumper pool table. Jukebox is well stocked and plays to fit the atmosphere of the customers. The owner Stan is highly knowledgeable of every beer known to man and can make recommendations on your mood/day to what beer will fit you. Tell Stan you were recommended by the reviewers on Beer Advocate!

This is a sort of diamond in the rough. A college bar that has stuck around for a while now. In a lot of ways, Alex's captures the bar atmosphere perfectly. It is charmingly decorated with college memorabilia, retro signs, art student paintings, a mostly trashed piano, and a larger than life mousetrap. If you like pool, or bumper pool, they have you covered. If you want to watch the big game, you could do worse than viewing it on the flatscreen here. Personally, the jukebox is the way to go. Incredibly good selection, and it beats the heck out of some idiot's iPod plugged into a speaker system.

The beer is usually nice and fresh, with a fine selection of brews on tap. There's also a wide selection of bottles (about 100 in total to choose from). Cannot comment much on the mixed drinks, but the "Jellyfish Shot" is highly recommended.

The crowning factor of Alex's is the pizza. Somehow, some way, they have stupidly good pies. Even if you aren't drinking, check it out.

Sure some of the tables are warped, scratched and wobbly, and I could complain about the low lighting. But honestly, it all adds to the subtle charm of the place. I come there for more than just the beer. It is simply a cool place to hang out.

If you want a good time, grab some buddies, order a large pepperoni pizza, a pint or two of Dogfish Head 90 Minute, and play some Creedance Clearwater Revival. You'll be glad you did.

As far as college bars go this is a great place. With tons of misc. projects and posters on the wall and item hanging on the ceiling one can visit everyday and find something new to look at.

IN the back behind the BUMPER pool table you will find the finest pizza and wings served in this little town. Also in the back are two normal pool tables that fill with college students during thurs-sun.

With 100 beers all mostly fresh, and many types of mixed drinks you will never be bored.

Thursday night is 32 oz. mug night. With specials ranging from $1 Natty Ice to $9 for a mug of mixed drink.

The bartender, Stan supports local senior class reunions with drink and food specials.

Overall this is a fantastic place.
