They have the largest selection of beer in the area without a doubt! It is a wine shop by name, and maybe a good one, but the beer is not just an afterthought here. I can't put a number on the available selection other than it takes up a wall over 50 feet long with shelves 5-6 high with 1-2 bottle to the front type of display. The beer manager is very knowledable and extremely helpful. The once a week beer tastings are a very nice feature and offer a way to expand your palate without breaking the bank.(They're free!)I look forward to trips to this shop and highly recommend it to anyone. The only negative is the shock and awe effect when perusing the stacks.

Visited 8-11-11 while on a brief trip to VA Beach. I had heard about thursday tastings so I made sure that was the day I visited. Gabe (I think) who hosted the tasting was very informative about what was being poured (Life and Limb II, Heavy Seas The Greater Pumpkin, among others), and although our conversation was brief, I enjoyed talking beer with him. For what seems to market itself as a wine and specialty shop, the beer selection was impressive. Tons of stuff I don't see in CA (Bell's, Founder's, Southern Tier, Schlafly, Hoppin Frog, etc.), and lots of it. I happily stocked up for the weekend (6ers of Two Hearted and Oberon, a few Southern Tier bombers and a couple other randoms), at what seemed to be a reasonable price (not sure how it compares to other shops in the area). I will definitely be visiting this place on future trips to the area.

After some quick research and review reading, this was my main target while on a recent vacation with the family to Sandbridge, VA.

Lots of wine and beer...a toy store for people like me! Very clean and nicely decorated...think of a fine gift shop, rather than a liquor store. The beer lines most of the right wall, with a few center islands also housing selections.

The selection and quality are awesome...right up there with any other major bottle shop. I imagine they get pretty much everything that is distro. in VA.

What really sets this place apart and garners such a high rating is the service. Both Kevin and Gabe are extremely knowledgeable and super big beer fans. It is easy to tell that they enjoy beer as much as anyone shopping there and are quick to tell you HONEST opinions about some of the offerings you may not be familiar with. Kevin even keeps juice boxes for kids (free!!) in one of the beer coolers...this tiny gesture shows what kind of person he is and what kind of business he runs.

I hope the people in that area of VA know how lucky they are to have such a great place right in their own back yard.

I stopped in here during a vacation to Virginia Beach based on reviews on this site. I did a quick pass through to see what was on the shelves and was immediately impressed with the selection. At first i was confused because none of the six packs had prices, but as i was trying to figure things out, the store owner, Kevin, came over to offer assistance. I then found out that everything was by the bottle, which was very cool, as there are not a lot of package stores in CT that have "by-the-bottle" pricing. Kevin and I then conversed about beer for the next 30 minutes. He was very nice and has a great knowledge of beer. He also made some great recommendations for beers, which was helpful, as there were many beers that I was not that familiar with, since they are not distributed to CT.

As for the pricing, I really can't comment, as I only purchased brands that I can't get in CT.

If and when I am back in the area, I will definitely be stopping by here again.

I make monthly visits to this store. Each month I grab a sixer of round the world beers and every time is a treat. The staff is extremely cheerful and polite. Then again, who wouldn't be cheerful when you get to work around beer and wine all day. What a life. Kevin the owner is always friendly and very helpful. This guys knows everything and is always willing to share his knowledge and love of beer with anyone. Their selection is outstanding and although they are a bit pricey the also have some really great values in there as well. I highly recommend you give it a try.

I went down for business and stopped in for my lunch break. What a treat! They had several hard to find beers at reasonable prices. The owner spent some time with me talking about different beers that I typically drink and offered me some other choices. I found a bottle of Schlafly Reserve Imperial Stout, actually two, I never just buy one as well as some Bell's Double Cream Stout, Bell's Kalamazoo Stout, Lagunitas Hop Stoopid, Great Divide Hercules, and the new Left Hand Stranger APA.

I can't wait to head back the next time I am in town, this is definitely one of the best beer shops in Virginia!

This was my second visit to this store. Originally from Va Beach, and know its not a beer city, this place is tops! Met Kevin the owner on thie recent visit, and the guy is a beer geek, knows his stuff, and is on top of getting the best available on his shelves. Coming from Florida, I'm always glad to find Founders, Bear Republic, Green Flash and some rare Belgians I've not seen my way. Great store, obvisouly all BA thinks the same. Can't wait for the next trip, Kevin mentioned adding more!!!

I visited Grape & Gourmet this past weekend on a quick business trip from Michigan to Virginia Beach. The reviews here convinced me to check it out, and I'm SO glad I did.

The store was set-up nicely with a great selection and lots of holiday beers and gift sets. The owner, Kevin, along with one of his regular customers, helped me pick out a few great beers that aren't available in Michigan. (Bear Republic, Williamsburg Alewerks, Terrapin) After about 10 minutes of great beer talk, Kevin even went into the back and grabbed his last bottle of Williamsburg Alewerks Cafe Royale for me!

Overall it was everything a great shop should be and I highly recommend you stopping in if you are in the area.

Grape and Gormet is a wonderful spot. They have a huge selection of wine and beer, but I mainly go for the beer. Kevin, the owner of the store, is very helpful and knowlegable about all things beer. The atmosphere is great, the selection is outstanding and the service is top notch. I know many peopl ein the area think the same way and I am sure that is why his customer base is so big. They have tastings once a week I think and a few special tastings on many of the weekends. Great place. Check it out.

Everytime I walk in I am always greated with a warm smile and am always greated by name. (maybe means I am in there a little to much) A nice selection and one of the best places in the 7 cities to find quality craft beer. The selection is always slightly different everytime I walk in which is always a plus. They also have some very hard to find brews. Found one last week that was "retired." Outside of the prices being slightly high, this is a place I would say to go. *money shouldnt be an issue for passion*

This was my first visit thanks to finding the store on beerfly. I was offered assistance by both Kevin and his wife, who own the store, within 10 minutes of entering. I received some informed recommendations and enjoyed my purchases. Comparing to the local chain competitor, TW, I would say G&G has a better by-the-bottle selection, comparable prices, and better service. Also to note, they have only one cold beer fridge and little/no average American beer (a good thing). You can find a fairly up-to-date listing of their selection at

En route home from OBX, we detoured a few minutes in order to visit Grape & Gourmet. Well worth it.

Quality: A well-lit, clean store with a nice layout. Beer and wine only, with beer occupying the central right side of the store. Bottles, available in singles and sixpacks, are stacked on shelves and tables. Prices are well-displayed.

Service: I was greeted immediately on entering the store and was quickly directed to the area of the store that I needed to be in. The beers that I wanted were quickly identified and taken to the register. A very nice experience.

Selection: Top notch. Plenty of national, international and Virginia offerings. I was in search of some rare AleWerks: mission accomplished! Bell's and Founders, wide selections of each, are plentiful, as are Legend, Southern Tier and many, MANY others. If you can't find something good, you've had way too many beers. G&G will be a regular stop in our future voyages through Hampton Roads.

This place is amazing! I always carry a list of what I'm looking for when I go in here to avoid impulse buys. This NEVER works. They have way too many beers at decent prices. The owners are awesome. One of them spent half an hour just talking about awesome beers and helping me find stuff. My list had 3 items on it, I ended up with about 12 different beers just because he saw what I liked and recommended things that he thought I might like. He pulls no punches with saying his opinion on beers, had a smile on his face the entire time, and didn't make me feel like a jackass for mispronouncing names or wanting beers that are unavailable. He enjoys beer and his job which rules. Great selection of Trappists (I saw all but Westvleteren in there) and Belgians, best selection of domestic microbrews in town, decent selection of English stuff, and a ton of wines. I asked about getting beer I knew wasn't available and he told me where to get it but offered me an amazing alternative that he had in stock. Whenever I'm in VA Beach I will continue to pop in here and load up.

Grape and Gourmet is a wonderful beer store next to the Central Library in Virginia Beach, the littlest big city in the world. The staff are extremely friendly and sociable, and I usually stay and talk with Kevin (the owner) for at least half an hour whenever I stop by.

The selection may not be the largest, but is amazingly diversified and focused on beers of the highest quality. If you are a beer geek then this is the place to come when you are in the Seven Cities. American standards such as Stone, Founders, Bell's, Left Hand, Great Divide and Green Flash are available. Nearly all of the Begian trappists are represented and other standouts include Drie Fonteinen, Cantillon, Ommegang, LaTrappe/Koeningshoeven, and, of course, St. Bernardus. Virginia Brewers are well represented with a nearly full line-up from the newly resanitized Williamsburg Alewerks and selected seasonal releases from The St. George Brewery in Hampton.

Perhaps the best most impressive thing about this store is that the selection tries to stay focused on the best and brightest of American craft beer at any given point in time. This alone makes the store a destination for area beer geeks and one of the more dependably interesting retailers in the area.

I visit the Grape and Gourmet on every visit to Va Beach and am always extremely satisfied. Sadly, it took me nearly three year for a beerfly review.

The staff are always very friendly and accomodating and are really very knowledgable about the beers they have. They alwasy seem enthusiastic to be working there, and it show.

The selection is bar none, the best in Va Beach. They have pretty much everything. Loads of Belgians and other English imports. The domestic variety is quite impressive as well. They have locals like Legend, Williamsburg Aleworks, and other stuff not available in NC like Troegs, 21st Ammendment. I even found a couple bottles of 120minute IPA a couple years back. I am sure that if something isnt on the shelves and they can get, they will get it if requested.

The only thing I can think of that I would like to change is this: All of the beers are singles only, which means there is no real advantage to buying a six pack, which makes this place a bit pricey. They do offer a 10% discount on purchases of cases, but 24 beers is a lot to commit to. An awesome place in Va Beach!

Very nice store. Has some brews that I haven't seen before and a bunch that I have. But since I've been out on the Eastern Shore for a while and DFH being 3 hrs north, this place was heaven. After just glancing over the selection and looking lost, I was asked if I needed any help. I told them only my bank account would need some help, which it did by the end of the trip. While I was picking out some things then, who I presume was the manager came over and talked about the beers with me for a bit. Then he let me know he had just got in some Hoppin' Frog that wasn't on the shelf yet and got some for me.
Solid place all around. A bit more pricey than the Wegman's up in PA, but not by much.

Quality: The beers available are the best that the state of Virginia will allow within it's borders.

Service: Kevin offers a hand to those who are clueless as I was about a year ago at this time. If I have a question, he answers and if he doesn't know it he'll find out.

Selection: Best selection that I've seen in Hampton Roads. A section devoted strictly to UK beers, another for Belgian Style and then three for domestic brews. No macro's here, just craft deliciousness.

Value: About $0.50 more per bottle than the other guys here in town.

Yes it is a bit pricey but there are good reasons. You're paying for quality, pure and simple. The owner knows his stuff and goes out of his way to get the best and keep the selection as diverse and well-stocked as possible. He's also a fan of the IPA's as we are but he's quite knowledgable about all things beer.

Grape and Gourmet offers regular tastings and monthly store-wide discounts at their cheap and cheery events, which offer free snacks and additional tastings. They also maintain a twitter account that updates the newest releases and upcoming events.

In the Hampton Roads area, there is no comparison to Grape and Gourmet's quality and selection diversity. For everyday purchases, go to Wine Plus but for something special, give Grape and Gourmet a try.

Yes, the store has a decent selection, and some hard to find beer, but the prices are through the roof. I'm sure the service is as good as the previous reviewers mention, but not worth it at their prices. A 6 pack of Founder's Stout was $18.00! I quickly put it back on the shelf and rapidly exited before I was charged admission. Check out Total Wine for a bigger selection and much better prices (in some cases almost 1/2 the price!). I don't mind paying a more to support a small local store, but I do have some limits.

Great place! We arrived just before 7:00, but the employee in charge of the beer tasting event kept it open for us anyway.

A great, if not horribly large, selection of beer to choose from. Excellent brews from around the world, many of which are not that common. The beer selection is strictly craft and import. Craft tends to be East Coast with some California and Colorado brews thrown in.

I picked up some BrewDog, Brooklyn Brewery, and more importantly, some Irish beers I've never had before, from the Porterhouse (Dublin).

A definite stop for the beer lover if you're in VA Beach. I just wish it was closer to the beach itself. Still, it was worth the fifteen minute drive.

My favorite place to buy beer. Great selection. Kevin is very knowledgeable and will give an honest opinion.

Case discounts and Thursday night tastings (which will include rare and expensive beers such as 2 Turtle Doves) are outstanding.

Kevin fights for better distribution and is very loyal to dedicated customers. They also have a great wine selection.

The only thing that would make this a better beer store is a growler station like the one at Charleston Beer Exchange. Otherwise great product, honest service, and good prices.

Grape & Gourmet might be classified as your larger-than-average hole in the wall. It is in an inconspicuous location in a strip mall. I gave the service a 5 only because of Kevin (Owner/Manager). He shared his knowledge of his beers with me, and helped me make some final selections. He carries a lot of different brands: Ommegang, Allegash, Stone Breweries, Hitachino Nest just to name a few. He's got hundreds of beers on hand and the store setup is nice and easy to figure out just by walking it. His best sellers are right near the door, his unusuals are up on the wall shelf and on a aisle style shelf that is about half the height. I haven't had a lot of opportunity to go, but if you are in the have to pay them a visit!

Hit this place up after visiting VA Beach for the weekend. Was able to plan out exactly what I wanted to get thanks to their great web site, which had a list of the beers they had in stock. I probably would not have stopped in had I not been able to plan my visit so well.

Kind of Zen-ed my way their after getting on VA Beach Blvd because I was unfamiliar with the area and the store is back from the road in a nondescript strip mall. Luckily my beer senses were good and I made all the right turns.

Inside, the store was neat and well organized. A lot of it is devoted to wine, but they have a wide variety of beers from around the world. Most are sold as singles, but there a select number of 6 & 4 packs. The beer was organized by county and the staff were very helpful in explaining how things were organized.

As far as my haul, I went for things I hadn't seen around me in Northern VA. I'm sure I could find up here some of what I got down there, but I can't emphasize enough how helpful it was to be able to use their web site for research before heading to the store.

I brought home singles from: De Dolle Brouwers (Oerbier & Bos Keun), Harviestoun Old Engine Oil, Brassier Dieu Du Ciel (Peche Mortel & Corne du diable), Brauerei Heller (Rauchbier Marzen & Rauchbier Urbock), a tall boy from Williamsburg Aleworks (Bourbon Barrel Porter), and just for kick a 4-pack of Founder Breakfast Stout (can never have enough of that).

The only thing they didn't have that they listed on their web site was a pumpkin ale from Williamsburg. I asked one of the employees at the store and they explained it had sold out earlier in the weekend. And speaking of the staff, they were extremely helpful. One of the guys on hand knew his stuff about the beer and steered me towards the Corne du diable which I simply loved.

As far as prices, they seemed alright for most of things, but I paid a pretty penny for a few things. Having never bought most of the stuff before, I'm not really sure if they were overpriced or not. The Founders was certainly about what I expect to pay ($10).

Overall, I was extremely glad I went out of my way to stop by. I wish more stores would keep a list of what they have on hand on their web sites. I'd certainly stop by more stores if they did.

Was visiting VA Beach this weekend for vacation and checked beerfly for a good store to visit while I was here. Grape & Gourmet is AWESOME! I emailed them in advance to let them know I was coming so they expected me. For what was once a wine store only, Kevin has a amassed very impressive beer collection. He says he gets 5 new beers in every week and to date he has about 600 different brews. He knows his stuff and is up to date on all new releases and when he expects them in (or hard to find beers he's trying to get in). We was very helpful with a couple new beers I hadn't had before and they offer a discount if you buy a case of bombers. If you're in the area, i HIGHLY recommend stopping by to check out the great selection and talk with Kevin. You won't be disappointed and you'll walk out a happy customer.

On the Way back from the Beer Festival in Norfolk we stopped at the Grape and Gourmet. First the biggest compliment would have to be the people there and the service. We stopped on Sunday afternoon and the two ladies running the shop were extremely friendly and helpful. The store was organized very nice and had some nice glass ware towards the front. Any question we had they helped allot. Selection in the store was a bit above normal. I did enjoy that some of the beers they carried the vintage of. They had the small 08 bottles of Stone's RIS there as well as some others. There wasn't much that the beer stores in NOVA didn't have except some of the vintages and larger bottles of beer. The price also was around a dollar or more above the avg that we are use to paying. Would recommend stopping here to any one as we will be again.
