I visit the Grape and Gourmet on every visit to Va Beach and am always extremely satisfied. Sadly, it took me nearly three year for a beerfly review.

The staff are always very friendly and accomodating and are really very knowledgable about the beers they have. They alwasy seem enthusiastic to be working there, and it show.

The selection is bar none, the best in Va Beach. They have pretty much everything. Loads of Belgians and other English imports. The domestic variety is quite impressive as well. They have locals like Legend, Williamsburg Aleworks, and other stuff not available in NC like Troegs, 21st Ammendment. I even found a couple bottles of 120minute IPA a couple years back. I am sure that if something isnt on the shelves and they can get, they will get it if requested.

The only thing I can think of that I would like to change is this: All of the beers are singles only, which means there is no real advantage to buying a six pack, which makes this place a bit pricey. They do offer a 10% discount on purchases of cases, but 24 beers is a lot to commit to. An awesome place in Va Beach!

Fantastic bottle shop with a large assortment of styles and a great mix of regional, national and international brews. I'm from NC and hit this place on a recent vacation in VA, I picked up a handful of brews unavailable back home. They've got a very nice selection of Belgians. The customer service was top notch. Definitely a great bottle shop.

En route home from OBX, we detoured a few minutes in order to visit Grape & Gourmet. Well worth it.

Quality: A well-lit, clean store with a nice layout. Beer and wine only, with beer occupying the central right side of the store. Bottles, available in singles and sixpacks, are stacked on shelves and tables. Prices are well-displayed.

Service: I was greeted immediately on entering the store and was quickly directed to the area of the store that I needed to be in. The beers that I wanted were quickly identified and taken to the register. A very nice experience.

Selection: Top notch. Plenty of national, international and Virginia offerings. I was in search of some rare AleWerks: mission accomplished! Bell's and Founders, wide selections of each, are plentiful, as are Legend, Southern Tier and many, MANY others. If you can't find something good, you've had way too many beers. G&G will be a regular stop in our future voyages through Hampton Roads.

about a 30 minute drive from Hampton where I've been staying for work, located in a strip mall in a very long string of strip malls

quality: I get the impression that the stock rotates pretty well here, everything was clean, nothing much to say (there rarely is)

service: great service experience, everyone was extremely helpful and conversant, very friendly, and for the most part knowledgeable about their beers

selection: an exhaustive selection including both locals and beer from the far reaches of the globe, encompassing both the commonplace and the rarities you'd never expect to find, the store's website is well kept and mostly up-to-date so check there for the most current selection, most anything is available as a single...was surprised to find a nice selection of French Broad out-of-state, various Legend seasonal bombers, Stone Cali-Belgique had just sold out :(, Le Freak, Blue Mountain, Bogedal - which I'd never seen anywhere, all the Rocheforts, and on and on and on, not undeserving of a 5

prices were extremely fair

First things first, the name...why can't we throw in something like Grape, Grain, and Gourmet. Fine Wine and Ales, or Fruit and Funk of Belgian Style Brews. I understand this is a wine store, but the beer selection not only rivaled the wine selection but pretty much stole the show. Check out the website, Kevin the store owner and operator has done a great job of selecting the best of the best. There's a Total Wine and More down a couple exits from Grape and Gourmet. Don't make the same mistake and go to both, and the Farm Fresh that's listed in the database as an A minus doesn't even stock a selection like they used to so somebody better keep some tabs on these stores living in the Virginia Beach area. Wide selection of brews while I was visiting a rep from B United and a family member of the Schneider (Aventinus) Braurei was in house before heading off to a local beer bar for a beer dinner. I left the store with Smuttynose Imperial Porter (the best since Perkuno's), both versions of Hopfen Weisse, Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere Fresh Hop, and many more fine brews. Kevin and staff were great for both beer knowledge and conversation, enjoyed my short trip to the store and I can't recommend it enough. World class beer selection that I'm glad I made the gamble to visit.

Went here the past two days, including the place's 2nd birthday on Saturday the 23rd of Feb. This is a self-run business, and I can't remember the gentleman's name but he and I talked about beer for a solid 5 minutes, which is pretty good since he had other things to do and it more of a wine store first. But I will gladly help the little guy over shitty, non-customer friendly corporate chains - especially when he actually truly cares about the beer.
For such a small place tucked in the middle of a non-descript shopping plaza on the way to Towne Center (shout-out: If you want something to eat and are in the mood for a slice of pizza or two walk down the plaza to Reginella's), there are close to 400-500 beers, almost all available in single bottle form but there are a few six-packs.
Probably the best part, which is hard to say because the people that work there treat you great, everything is moderately priced (nothing crazy like $1 beers but you can afford to shop here regularly) is the fact that out of five beer "bookcases" (imagine five bookcases stacked next to each other but with beers instead of books), about two are American microbrews, one is a mix and the other two are solid Belgians. I'm not just talking about the ones that you can find at most places (St. Bernardus 12), but harder to find ones like Trappist 10, St. Bernardus Triple (the whole St. Bernardus line and some Celis), and then I found (for only $5 each mostly) the D'olle line, including the christmas beer and Mad Bitch. There were other harder-to-find to almost rarities, especially in this town, like the Kerst seasonal (which is in my closet now) and they had some extra Delirium Noel. Any beer lover in Va Beach/Norfolk.Chespeake has to come to this place at least once. If you do, try and make it on a Thursday from 4:30-7 during a beer tasting (it's free).

The go to place in the area for craft brew, and wine if you are into that. Awesome staff, Kevin the owner is awesome to talk to about beer and his wife who runs the wine part is super funny. Really good people! They offer a free weekly beer tasting the often features some really great beers, it is a great way to expand your beer experiences. Overall selection is great, and very diverse. Prices are fair, and if you add in that you get the free tastings it really adds to the value. Definitely the best of the best in the VB area.

Great place! We arrived just before 7:00, but the employee in charge of the beer tasting event kept it open for us anyway.

A great, if not horribly large, selection of beer to choose from. Excellent brews from around the world, many of which are not that common. The beer selection is strictly craft and import. Craft tends to be East Coast with some California and Colorado brews thrown in.

I picked up some BrewDog, Brooklyn Brewery, and more importantly, some Irish beers I've never had before, from the Porterhouse (Dublin).

A definite stop for the beer lover if you're in VA Beach. I just wish it was closer to the beach itself. Still, it was worth the fifteen minute drive.

This was on my list as a place to visit while I was down in Virginia Beach. It's a small, cozy little place with wine, beer and mead in good quantities. I was especially interested in their selection of B. Nektar meads since we don't get any in the Philadelphia area. The owners were friendly and even held some bottles aside for me until I arrived once I saw their posts on Facebook. Prices were completely reasonable for the market. Highly recommend this place if you're down in the area. As far as bottle selection goes, this and Total Wine were the best.

After some quick research and review reading, this was my main target while on a recent vacation with the family to Sandbridge, VA.

Lots of wine and beer...a toy store for people like me! Very clean and nicely decorated...think of a fine gift shop, rather than a liquor store. The beer lines most of the right wall, with a few center islands also housing selections.

The selection and quality are awesome...right up there with any other major bottle shop. I imagine they get pretty much everything that is distro. in VA.

What really sets this place apart and garners such a high rating is the service. Both Kevin and Gabe are extremely knowledgeable and super big beer fans. It is easy to tell that they enjoy beer as much as anyone shopping there and are quick to tell you HONEST opinions about some of the offerings you may not be familiar with. Kevin even keeps juice boxes for kids (free!!) in one of the beer coolers...this tiny gesture shows what kind of person he is and what kind of business he runs.

I hope the people in that area of VA know how lucky they are to have such a great place right in their own back yard.

Grape & Gourmet

In a strip mall off of Virginia Beach Blvd. Down the road from Gordon Biersch.
Walked in and this store is mostly about wine. Aside from the wine there are wine glasses, racks, t-shirts, etc... So much Ctotchke crap, but on your right there are several shelves of beer including a fridge. Every bottle is individually labeled and the selection covers a wide range. One table has plenty of German and English and another table had newer beers. The workers were very friendly and helpful and the customers were chatty. This is the best Liquor store in VB that I know of!

My haul;
Firestone Porter $5.99
Firestone Double Barrel $1.99
Blue Mtn Full Nelson $1.99
Breckenridge 471 $2.29
Breckenridge Vanilla $1.69
Breckenridge Oatmeal $1.69
Breckenridge Amber $1.69
New Holland Full Circle $1.89
New Holland Red Tulip $1.89
New Holland Sundog $1.89
Tommykncker Brown $2.29
Tommyknocker Butthead $1.49
Tommyknocker Cocoa $1.59
Green Flash Hop Red $2.19
Blue Grass NutBrown $1.59
Blue Grass Jefferson $4.35
Legend Hefe $4.49

I think it came to $50.

Highly recommended if you're in VB or driving through!

Superb customer service that will hold bottles for you either by phone, email, or via twitter. They carry a wonderful selection and are always willing to help you find what you are looking for. I can't speak any more highly of Deborah and Kevin!

Their wine selection is just as top-notch as the beer! You won't be dissapointed!

They have an awesome selection, they tell you what they have on the shelves and they're willing to hold a bottle or two so you can make it down there on your own time and not just get lucky. Love 'em!

Visited while on vacation in Virginia Beach. About 8 miles from VA Beach. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Good selection of quality beers. Didn't really notice a lot of old stock. Everything I got was fairly fresh. (Maybe I just got the popular stuff..). Prices are very reasonable ...being from New York.

Overall a great experience. Previous reviews I had read on this site were pretty spot on. The owner Kevin and his wife were beyond nice and went out of there way when I asked for something I couldn't find.

Wish this place was near me because I would go there all the time.

I stopped in here during a vacation to Virginia Beach based on reviews on this site. I did a quick pass through to see what was on the shelves and was immediately impressed with the selection. At first i was confused because none of the six packs had prices, but as i was trying to figure things out, the store owner, Kevin, came over to offer assistance. I then found out that everything was by the bottle, which was very cool, as there are not a lot of package stores in CT that have "by-the-bottle" pricing. Kevin and I then conversed about beer for the next 30 minutes. He was very nice and has a great knowledge of beer. He also made some great recommendations for beers, which was helpful, as there were many beers that I was not that familiar with, since they are not distributed to CT.

As for the pricing, I really can't comment, as I only purchased brands that I can't get in CT.

If and when I am back in the area, I will definitely be stopping by here again.

Always a great experience at Grape and Gourmet, very welcoming environment, friendly and knowledgeable staff, great selection and they do a beer tasting every thursday...what more can you ask? My favorite part is they are great about communicating when new beers come out.

I put them down as reasonable in the value category as most of their beers are well priced but some are a little on the high side. Also docked them a bit for having some IPAs that are past their prime on the shelves at regular price, I am really not a believer in the dropping off of an IPA after a month or two, but some are six months old sitting around, it would be better to discount them to rotate the stock.

Not near as big of a collection as what's been hyped up about online. Went into the store and looked scanned every beer with nothing really I'd say that was even a somewhat exciting find.

After reading a few reviews of this place on this site, I had to swing by last time I was in Virginia Beach. Truth be told, I was a bit skeptical of the high marks this establishment received, and thought to myself, "What could I find here that I can't get in Richmond?" Well, turns out, quite a few things.

With a fine selection consisting of some of America's top breweries, as well as great imports, Grape & Gourmet has its ear to the street when it comes to providing the good stuff. Also, a few vintage selections definitely make it a worthwhile stop. I ended up purchasing some Gueze Girardin and some aged Aventinus, as well as some limited release items from Williamsburg Ale Werks. Their specialization makes them a unique store, which I love because when you find a few regional stores that have certain items, it makes stocking up that much more fun.

Also, the service was phenomenal, as Kevin was a really personable guy that knew his stuff, and was just as excited about beer as I was. It really reminded me of why I enjoy great beer, and why I appreciate those who make the effort to get crafts and imports to the consumer at a reasonable price. To me, that's real beer advocacy. Check this place out if you happen to be in VB. You won't be let down.

Stopped in yesterday while visiting Virginia Beach. Located in a strip mall, this place is a little hard to find if you aren't careful. I got directions from the proprietress or I would not have found it. I was greeted by her(can't remember her name) and Kevin, the proprietor. While they have a large amount of wine, the beer section has only been in place for two years, and according to Kevin, the beer specialist of the pair, it should continue to grow. One can only hope. Logically organized with a large selection of American micros, Belgians, European imports. I found lots of Stone, Vertical Epic, XII, Ruination, Southern Tier Unearthly, DFH 120 minute. It was a miracle to leave there spending less than one hundred dollars, but they gave a nice quantity discount as well. Great place, great selection, great folks. Check it out whenever you're in the area.

My buddy was stationed and Va Beach and raved about this place. He actually brought me some beer up when he came to visit. My fiance and i went to Va Beach for a DMB show and this was placed into our trip as ihad to see this place.

Walked in and was truly amazed with the selection of microbrews that they had. They also had a fine selection of wines that my fiance perused.

A great guy named Kevin (who works there) found me perusing and we striked up a good convo about some beers i should buy.

Service was awesome and Kevin seemed to know everything about each beer that was there. I love this place. Please think about opening one up in Harrisburg. I will gladly manage

Awesome resource for the Tidewater Virginia beer lover. Excellent selection, the first time I have ever seen Green Flash, Bear Republic or Bell's in the Tidewater area!!!! Kevin is super enthusiastic and knowledgeable. His regulars are real beer lovers and he goes out of his way to stock the beers they are asking for. He has beer tastings every Thursday and the web site is updated every week or so, whenever he gets new beers in. I have noticed a ripple effect at Total Wine in recent days, it seems their selection has recently got better as well (probably because Grape and Gourmet has raised the bar in this area).

If you can only make one stop in Tidewater / South Hampton Roads, Grape and Gourmet is the place.

Based on reviews I read at Beer Advocate while researching the Virginia Beach for a recent visit, this shop seemed like a "must see" location for beer lovers. Upon entering I walked directly to the two-door beer cooler (on the right) to see what was available. I wish you could have seem my smile as I surveyed the selection; nearly everything there was new to me. Sadly realizing that I had no practical way to transport cold beer back to North Carolina, I moved on to the "beer wall," which takes up at least two four-foot sections of shelves. My even bigger smile must have betrayed my thoughts, as Kevin walked over and asked if I saw anything new here. He was nice, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Due to distribution and alcohol level issues (NC limit is 15%; no limit in VA), some beers simply aren't available in my state. They have Green Flash, high-alcohol Dogfish Head (Fort, Raison D'extra), the Stone line, some rarer Victory products, Avery's Mephistopheles Stout, and Smuttynose. Among items I'm familiar with, they have Rogue, Ommegang, North Coast, Unibroue, and Weyerbacher. There is also a large contingent of Belgian beers and a few Virginia products. Everything is available by the single bottle.

I left this store with approximately $60 in products I've never seen in my state; you can expect to see my reviews pop up in the next several weeks! This was a most pleasant and exciting shopping experience; if I lived near this store I'd be in there constantly!

After several recommendations I finally decided to seek this place out during my quest for Stone RIS. The store was easy to find, well lit, neat, and extremely clean. No dusty bottles, and each one was individually priced. Kevin (the co-owner) certainly knows his beer, as well as his wine. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and friendly. As far as the selection goes, it could very well be the best in the area. A massive selection of Belgians, aged signature brews, locals, and rarities are all available. Just from memory they had a diverse selection of Stone, Bell's, Avery, St Bernardus, Rochefort, Breckinridge, He'Brew, Unibroue, and Lagunitas as well as some I'd never even heard of before. Prices were extremely reasonable and anything can be sold as a single. This is definite beer destination and I will never have an issue making a 45 minute drive to buy from this place, highly recommended!

Tried this place while on vacation. The people working there were extremely nice and went out of their way to get a 12 pack of the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp for me. (The tough beer to get of the moment)

They had a really nice selection of beer that you were allowed to buy in singles. The only very slight knock that I had was that the cold selection was extremely minimal but they more than made up for it in room temp selection.

I would highly recommend this place to any BAs in the area.
