First bottle to a tulip glass. Even though the pour was moderately aggressive, no head at all, just a tan ring. No visible carbonation. Second bottle to a pilsener glass, very aggressive pour, to better cause a head and view any carbonation. 2nd time, a 1 inch tan head, bubbly, dissipates relatively quickly with lacing. Carbonation is virtually nonexistant; an occasional bubble is visible rising up, and I have to hold it to the light to see that. After a few minutes, no visible carbonation at all. Dark brown to black color. Very nice roasted aroma. Taste follows the aroma, dominated by roasted malts, transitioning to sweetness and a touch of bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and only slightly bitter. Body is a bit thin and flat. Very flat. Overall, this is a very blah beer. Not very good at all. It is not drain-pour bad, but there is nothing special at all in this beer and the lack of mouth feel makes it really a struggle to try to enjoy. Given the reviews, I expected a lot more. I gave this beer 2 full bottles before writing this review. While the 2nd made perhaps a slightly better impression than the first, this does rank as the worst stout/porter I've had to date, admittedly not a huge sample population, but I definitely won't be buying this one again.

Was a bit surprised by this one in a random mix 6er while visiting family in MSP. For my predisposed expectations it was exactly what is expect from an oatmeal milk stout. Thick khaki head had outstanding retention. Wasn't overly sweet on the nose, just right amount of sweetness on the taste. Had hoped the oatmeal would've added a bit more body, but it was on the thinner side like a traditional milk stout. I'd definitely grab again, but maybe not a full 6er.

Been meaning to try this for a while, finally getting around to drinking it. Enjoyed 5 Feb 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours very dark brown, essentially black. A hint of light through the edges, but this beer looks thick. Medium brownish tan head, one finger, okay retention and a bit of lacing.

The smell is really interesting. I've never had an oatmeal milk stout before, but this smells like what I'd expect from one. A pleasant full milky-oaty sweetness. It's a blend that works really well together. I don't get much of the stout, just a bit of roast in the background.

Taste is a little bland, IMO. That same oaty milky sweetness, but it's muted. And again, I don't know where the malts went, as they just don't present much flavor here. A mildly bitter back end rolls through. I want more flavor out of it.

Mouthfeel is quite nice. Silky, slick, and full, all in one big mouth-filling combo. Carbonation is right where it should be - medium-low.

An interesting combo, and a pleasant, easy-drinking stout. My main complaint is that I want more flavor. For a beer with this much involved, the taste should have more potency or more variety or both.

I have been wanting to try this beer for a long time! Ran into a 6er the night before KBS release party finally popping the top on a bottle!

poured into snifter glass.

Appearance: light black bodied beer with a one and a half finger high head that fades to a thin cap quickly. Spotty lace on side of glass.

Smell: smells like a good milk stout should! decent roasty malts and lactose are noted right away in the nose. Little smoke and a little black licorice and even a little fruity. Overall it smells fairly sweet.

Taste: A little inderwhelming compared to the nose, but its still tasty. Mild raost and smoke mixes with a sweet and lactose / milky taste. You can taste a little bit of the oats in this beer as well. Mild roast in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: light end of a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Silky, creamy, and smooth thanks to the oats. Really drinkable stout, a little thinner than I like, but it works okay in this beer. Carbonation is good match for this beer.

Overall: Nice sessionable milk stout. Easy drinking and simple beer; make it a little thicker and a little more robust. It is an enjoyable stout!

Pours an opaque brown with a nice lasting foamy tan head and excellent lacing.

The aromas are excellent. Cocoa, carob, oats, lactose, malted milk, and toasted malt.

The brew is a shade sweet, even for the style, but still tasty. Strong malty cocoa notes with oatey goodness and just a touch of astringency.

The brew has nice body, but could use just a bit more carbonation to balance things out.

Overall, a tasty drinkable milk stout.

Pours pitch black. Seriously. I held it up to light and could not see through it. Brownish tan head. not much lacing on the glass. Smells of roasted coffee, chocolate and molasses. Taste is bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Nice creamy mouthfeel with little carbonation and silky smooth on the palate. I enjoyed this Milk Stout through and through.

This dark creamy stout (oatmeal milk stout...as the label says) is a dark rich pour. It had a small tan head that didn't last long, but nice lacings remained. The smokey dark coffee taste was intense and in my opinion, the oatmeal prevents the bitter aftertaste that usually accompanies these stouts. I would buy it again.

Also, nice label. We love it when breweries take the time and effort to market with am imaginative and informative label.

Appearance: Straight pour into a pint glass. The color is opaque black; no light passed through when I held it to a lamp. Two fingers of buttery, thick, tan head dissipated quickly (which was a surprise) to leave trails along the glass, a thin film, and a ring around the edge.

Smell: Dark, roasted malts make the first impression. Coffee, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, caramel, and black licorice. The aroma is very rich, much like a thick, chocolate pudding, and it has an oatmeal smoothness to keep the roasted bitterness at bay.

Taste: Once again, the roasted malts make the first impression. Coffee is most evident, but its roasted characters are mostly kept in check by sweeter flavors of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and caramel. That said, the roasted characters actually leave a delicious bitterness lingering in deep crevices. It is not as sweet as the smell, but I am cool with that. It still exhibits that lactose and oatmeal balance.

Drinkability: It is a stellar example of oatmeal/milk stout with a nice roasted edge. Very enjoyable.

Presentation: Twelve ounce bottle poured into a pint glass, served chilled and allowed to warm to near room temperature.

Appearance: Black in color with a nice light brown head.

Aroma: Coffee, milk chocolate, and a touch of brown sugar. Vey pleasant and balanced.

Taste: Much like the aroma, mild and smooth coffee is paired with some nice milk chocolate. A touch smoky and toasted at the same. Nice balance.

Mouthfeel. Medium bodied, but the oatmeal brings a creamy fullness that is needed.

Overall, a really great oatmeal or milk stout. I guess you could call it either as it really gets a lot of character of both styles. Really spot on. I would definitely get this again if it were local.
