Smell is smokey peat with a little spice.
Taste is caramel malt with a bit of banana. A bit of an alcohol/medicinal taste.

Pours a cloudy, brown color. 1/6 inch head of an off-white color. Poor retention and poor lacing. Smells of strong sweet malt, smoke, slight alcohol, slight pale malt, and a hint of caramel malt. Fits the style of a Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of strong sweet malt, smoke, slight alcohol, slight pale malt, and a hint of caramel malt. Overall, poor appearance, good aroma, body, blend, and feel.

Murky, dull orange color.

Minimal head; minimal lacing.

Smoke hits your nose like a prizefighter. Holy shit. Subtle raspberry smell underneath.

Murky, dull orange color.

Medium mouthfeel.

That smoked peat isn't hiding anywhere in the flavor either, it practically numbs your mouth. Again, raspberry reveals itself after several quaffs. Smoked beer done right; this is a palate wrecker but an enjoyable one. A medicinal aftertaste is present; somehow enjoyable. What a pleasant surprise; one of the better smoked beers I've had.

The coolest part of this beer is how you can taste the peat smoke in the malt used. It is interesting, but a much lighter body than I was expecting.

I was pleasantly surprised with this offering. Poured into a chilled mug; rich dark amber brown color. This was pleasingly smooth with up front hints if caramel with more hops at the end. Also, this didn't feel overly heavy. Many scotch ales are a one beer night (for me anyway), I would happily drink a few of these and not feel overpowered. So, good balance. Definitely give this beer a try.

A little sweet for my tastes but that is not a fault. I like the complex flavor but at 7.6% ABV this one can sneak up on you.
