look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Pours a clear copper color with a rocky head that leaves plenty of lacing around the glass

Smell: A yeasty, grainy aroma with undertones of caramel

Taste: Starts out with a slightly sweet caramel base; after the swallow, a grainy bitterness kicks in that persists through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation but a puckerish quality from the bitterness

Drinkability: Quite easy to drink and surprisingly bitter for the style

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

appearance: The pour gives a low eggshell white head that steadily turns to a ring around the glass and a thin layer on the surface. The beer is medium amber in color.

smell: Obvious CBC "house" character all over it. Grassy noble hops and a sweetish caramel/toffee malt aroma. Leafy fall aromas. Pretty straightforward, well balanced.

mouthfeel: The carbonation is just under medium, and the body a heavier medium. I like the body but feel that it could use a little more carbonation.

taste: Moderately sweet toasted malts upfront. Considerable notes of grain are found alongside some nutty, toffee like flavors. Light hop flavor and a moderate bitterness found in the finish with some earthy flavors.

drinkability: A good beer, easy to drink.

Picked up a couple six packs of this brewery-only release after the tour this past weekend. Bottling date of 09-13-06 is printed on the label.

bottled 9/13/06, shipped by the prince of darkness himself, blackie

appearance: poured into a new glarus pint glass taken from the red shed (lol), body is a pale amber/golden copper colour...light beige head that recedes to nothing almost immediately. average appearance

smell: strong sweetness on the nose, slightly sour apple, roasted nut, toasted grain, chalky malt structure

taste: meh, a bit too much sweetness and not very true to style...slight sourness, toasted grain, roasted peanut...pretty similar to the lakefront effort i would venture to say

mouthfeel: medium body, a touch sour

drinkability: fine

How do German lions say “roar?” Thanks to brentk56 for trading. The pour is a semi-cloudy orange color with amber highlights. A good head that hid to the side of the glass during the tasting.

The smell has a light Oktoberfest smell with strong Vienna notes in the malt. In the background, there are some caramel touches and somewhat a fig aroma. A lighter sweetness to it.

The taste has a good malty flavor. Vienna malt is noticeable upfront and backed by a sweeter Oktoberfest finish. Some lighter grainy flavor that is board line toasty in a way. A good finish that has hints of chalkiness. The hops are light but balance the malt. A light grassy finish as well.

The body is good with more of a mid feel then full. Decent carbonation and as noted, a light chalky finish. I don’t know how a lion says it, but I say it “yum!”

On tap at the Bramwell WV oktoberfest.

From my notes, verbatim:

"Pale brown with thin head, some lacing.

Nice, malty smell, almost nutty. Pleasant.

Crisp, dry malty lager. Easy to drink."

I enjoyed this beer and noted it was my favorite O-fest beer at the O-fest event. However, in retrospect it wasn't overly memorable. I know I enjoyed it, though :) Cheers!

purchased at the brewery on release day

pours out of the bottle with a super thin head and a beautiful amber color

strong carmel smell and taste, a bit on the sweet/malty side, but rounded out nicely with the hops

overall, a great beer that's not a style I'm particularly fond of, but this is really good!

Served a crisp copper amber with a head that quickly diminished to nothing. Aroma was some caramel malts, a little weak. The taste was a nice maltiness with slight notes of caramel and nuts. The beer is light bodied with low carbonation. This one was enjoyable and a good example of the style.

12 oz bottle

A: clear amber/copper under a small white head. Very little head retention. No lacing.

S: Some caramel and that characteristic heavy grain aroma that usually shows up in CBC brews, goes pretty well with this one. Some hoppiness.

T: Really grainy with kind of a dirty finish. Some sweetness. Some toasted caramel.

M/D: Mouthfeel is really nice. Carbonation is spot on and the body is a smooth medium. Drinkability is pretty nice as well.

Overall, a slightly above average Oktoberfest in my opinion, but one that is easily downed.

Had a taste of this at Tyler's Tap Room in Durham and it was hard to tell which seasonal we had here. I assume it was Oktoberfest based on it now being fall but nobody was sure which variety it was. It wasn't a summer beer but it did not display the malty characteristics others have described here. It poured a dark brown-copper color with a nice off-white head and good lacing. The aroma, however, was weak and suggested skunky cardboard to me. Not inviting. The taste did show some caramel as others have noted but it showed more wheaty and grassy highlights by far. Biscuit and some citrus but whimpy overall with a soda-like weakness. The carbonation was solid but little or no body. Wouldn't want to drink too much of this. It's passable.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium copper in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and some faint amber + ruby red highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy dark beige head that reduces to a couple of small patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering about 75% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of toasted and bready malts with just a hint of grainy + caramel malts. Light aromas of floral + earthy hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of toasted + bready malts with a light amount of grainy + caramel malts contributing a touch of initial sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of floral + earthy hops contributing a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades away pretty quickly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: Decent but not great, perhaps a little too much of the house toasted malts in this brew for me. Easy to drink.

Sampled from a 12oz bottle purchased at the brewery.

A - Amber with good clarity and a small white head.

S - Initially and then as you agitate it, I got a hint of cardboard. But otherwise pleasant with toast and a slight sweetness.

T - A tasty malt base with a slight hop bitterness. Crisp and clean with a nice dry finish.

M - Smooth and slightly creamy with a low carbonation.

O - A good offering from my most local brewery.

12oz bottle, poured into a standard pint glass.

A: copper color, clear, 1 finger off-white head which dissipated quickly, no lacing.

S: no hop aroma. has a very malty nose.

T: big malty flavor that fills the mouth with a malt sweetness. it tends to dry out in the finish.

MF: medium bodied, medium carbonation.

Drinkability: pretty good beer. it has a nice malt aroma/flavor.

On tap at Tribeca Tavern in Raleigh.

A - caramel, ruby amber with a soft white head that has good retention

S - light graininess, toasty

T - toasted malt, caramel, mildly bitter, fruity finish

M - medium bodied, well carbonated

This isn't a bad Oktoberfest but it has that traditional Carolina base malt that adds just a bit too much toastiness to the malt. Besides that this is a decent Oktoberfest. To support locals, I'd snag another pint of this but if it were bottled I probably wouldn't pick it up.
