Stegmaier Porter is brewed with a combination of domestic six-row barleys and various roasted malts. This timeless brew is accented with a combination of Tettnang and Cascade hops. Fermented at high temperatures with our in-house ale yeast, the final product releases a roasted aroma with faint hop overtones. The flavor presents a grainy, slightly burnt malt background. It delivers tones of dark chocolate, accented with a slight coffee bitterness to round out the flavor. Stegmaier Porter is opaque brown in color and boasts a full, creamy head.

Very dark porter, basically opaque chocolate color topped by a deep brown foam. On the nose prominent roast of dark chocolate and coffee. Light hoppy aromas with tones of earth and floral citrus. Big roasted breads dark toasted coffee and caramel malty sweetness with a well balanced bitter hop with intense malty coffee caramel chocolate bready love. Not too sweet with right balance of malty and hop. Great porter that gets better as it slowly warms and sits...

This beer poured black with a fluffy brown head that was about two finger-widths high.
The aroma was chocolatey with hints of caramel, and toasted malt.
The initial taste was unremarkable so I let it warm in the glass for a few minutes. After waiting, the initial taste dives right into the toasted malt flavor of the beer. In the middle there is some subtle hoppieness, and the beer finishes with chocolate and coffee notes warming on the tongue. There is also a touch of caramel present in the aftertaste.
The mouth feel was full bodied and a bit sticky with a good amount of carbonation that makes the finish seem quite crisp for a porter.
Overall, this was a very drinkable porter. Nice for sipping on a cold day.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts, light chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, some smokiness, hints of chocolate, a touch of bitterness at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear black in color with moderate amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy tan head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of roasted, slightly charred malts with a light hint of cocoa/chocolate and caramel sweetness.
T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of roasted, slightly charred malts with a hint of caramel malts and light associated sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than light flavors of chocolate/cocoa powder and a hint of earthy hops. Slightly stronger than light amounts of lingering roasty bitterness.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.
O: Nothing special here, almost one dimensional with a touch too much charred malt for my preferences in an American Porter. Drinkable but probably not something that I would get again as there are just too many better offerings out there.

Nice dark brown color and a decent beige head. Looks like a porter.
Aroma is fine, no distinct hop or roast barley to speak of, though.
Taste is a pleasant surprise for a "budget" porter ($23.55 / case including tax) and to be honest it reminds me a great deal of my homebrewed dark lagers. Nothing in the labeling establishes whether it is an "ale" but my guess is they use lager yeast...but so do I so I approve.
Mouthfeel is decent, the carbonation was a bit high starting out but calmed down as I went. It creates an acceptable lacing especially, again, considering the price.
Overall I think this is a good beer at a good price. If they put it out in cans I'd load up on some for the summer music festivals. Will have to check when we're up around Wilkes-Barre.

I have had this a while back, but recently decided to review for the first time from the bottle in a cup.
The color is black with opaque clarity and light tan head with fine bead and light lace sticks. The smell has a dark fruit, cocoa and mild caramel blend with dark toasted grain in the aroma. The feel is very nice with dark malt and light roasted texture with mild sweetness and medium carbonation with semi-dry finish and medium body with low bitterness.
The taste is very good with pleasant mix of malt with dry roasted flavor and light medium caramel sweetness with slight yeast adding some dried fruit character to augment the slight dark cocoa/french roast coffee type flavors in the back with mild mineral dryness in the finish. Overall -Solid and hihghly drinkable with nice roasty medium strength porter qualities lovely malt with roasted flavor dominance
