Brewed to the taste of the nation, Stegmaier Gold Medal is the embodiment of a typical American lager. This light-bodied beer originally obtained its name from winning 8 gold medals at various European expositions in 1913. We have continued using these same time honored techniques that give the beer its winning taste. We use the finest American grown malt, and artfully blend it with Galena and Mt. Hood hops. Ring a Ding Ding! It’s COLD and GOLD from the Poconos!

Generic - isn't necessarily "bad" or "off" in the flavors, just pretty bland. What you would expect from any off the shelf adjunct style lager beer..

Opened a vintage bottle that was won at a silent auction from back in the day. The bottle was a twist off cap but a stubby looking bottle. There was no carbonation left. The smell was kinda gross the taste was too. Overall well beyond its prime. Fun to try, wouldn’t mind having a fresh bottle.

Pours a pale gold with a white head that disappeared like a flash. Smells like corn and booze with a slightly sweet aroma. The taste is pleasantly sweet with some corn flavors and barely, if any, bitterness. Decent carbonation. For a cheap brew this is not bad at all. I'd rather drink this than many other cheap beers.

I've bought many a cheap beer from the beer distributor in Pitt. I discovered J.J. Wainwrights Evil Eye Honey Brown at 8.99 for a case straight from Pittsburgh brewing. It was great while it lasted. I discovered the magic of Yuengling, all flavors, and was a major exporter to Ohio. I've also had some really bad cases, but nothing worth a total pour. So, when I saw a case of this beverage in 16oz cans, I figured out I'd try it. The employees of the store said they never tried it but the same people come in for it again and again. Okay.
Poured with little head and lace that ended quickly leaving a typical yellow, sparkling, "burp beer" appearance. The scent was heavy cooked grain with a boozy aftermath. Sort of like the end of a glass of bourbon on the rocks.
Was a little sweet in the mouth with the slightest bitterness, but otherwise, just like soda water. The taste profile was the real surprise with this beer. Rather than tasting like every other cheap foamy yellow beverage, this one had some spirit. Yes, the cooked grain is there but also the lighter notes of a pilsner. There is a slight butterscotch to this and more of a syrupy sweet than a dry pils flavor. I had these while sitting outside and it made a fine, almost session like beer.
So, for the money I paid, this makes a different taste that is quite nice when tired of other cheap beverages. I'll add this to my list of decent cheapies when I want a cheapy.
