Stegmaier India Pale Ale is an American IPA with an attitude! It is brewed with American malts and aggressively hopped with three varieties of American hops – Centennial, Cascade, and Nugget. This IPA has an assertive hop presence and a strong malt backbone. Stegmaier IPA uses a quarter ton of hops, which balance the malt sweetness and make this brew a hop lover’s delight!

A pretty average IPA. It is not too thin and it has bitterness. That makes it do-able!!! pours a fairly clear copper color with a small white head (average retention) and wide bands of lacing on the glass. Smell is pretty weak, maybe a little grassy hops. Taste is better. Mostly grassy but some piney hops, some dry biscuity malt. The bitterness is the major attraction. Mouthfeel is fairly light, but not watery. Not a great IPA, but I would drink one again, nothing wrong with it.

I've had some better, many worst, this is my go to IPA. First mouthful after a rough day is like heaven. Low price keeps some snobs away, I don't mind...
A: reddish brown, almost like an Irish ale
S: Light hoppy, not much else
T: Nice bitter taste, goes through your whole body on first sip..
M: Lighter body than most IPA's , don't let it fool you.
O: Double the price and people will say what hidden gem... but don't do that

Poured into a nonic a deep rich copper with a a fluffy one and a half finger white head that left multiple rings of broken lace as it settled into a creamy mass.Big herbal and citric hop aromas with underlying caramel, really well defined hop aromas here.Flavors start out with a big blast of citric hops, again there is also a herbal almost medicinal quality to the hop flavors as well,a big sweet caramel/biscuit malt base really holds strong thru to the finish.A very well made IPA here, the hops are big and complex, well done.

A: Pale and light, looks like an India Pale Ale, average head and lacing.

S: American hops dominate though not in any obvious category, slightly earthy with a little citrus. Some caramel malt sneaks in.

T: Floral and spicy hops, though not too interesting. There is a lot of bitterness though not unbearably so and enough malt that IPA drinkers would call it "balanced". Overall this is a pretty average, but appreciatively not overblown, version of the style.

M: One of the better IPA's I've had in terms of mouthfeel, not too much hop oiliness and the right amount of carbonation.

D: Very high for an IPA, the alcohol (6.8% ABV) is hidden under the hops and slight caramel and the carbonation and overall mouthfeel make this one of the most enjoyable and easily palatable, if not overly exciting, beers of this style I've tasted.

Pours into my La Fin du Monde chalice with a bright copper appearance and a light khaki well textured head. Fine evenly strewn lacing down the sides of my glass. Aroma has a nice blast of citrus/grapefruit and slightly earthy hop nose, a hint of caramel bready malt going on as well. Flavor is lacking on the hop flavor, there's definitely some hop pellet bitterness and watered down hop flavor some citrus/pine notes with a caramel/husky malt character pretty interesting. Their Pale ale is much better, I can't detect the alcohol strength...I would never guess this is almost 7% alcohol by volume. Mouthfeel is medium bodied even carbonation level a bit of cloying malt character left behind. Overall a decent brew meant to be enjoyed as a training wheel East Coast large regional brewer IPA.

Thanks to Mymrnngjckt for this one!
12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
A: Pours a nice white head that holds well. The body is a malty IPA, which is slightly clear. The lacing is left in a a sediment layer.
S: The aroma is a low intensity of a citrus hops and a brief hit of malt.
T/M: The finish is a dry mouthfeel of a hoppy bitterness. The front is a smooth and mellow body of hop and malt balance.
D: I find this to be a very drinkable beer. The flavors a on for the style and it has a smooth and mellow drink to it.

Stegmaier IPA pours a beautiful amber body with an egg white head.

It smells of hops, cascade being one variety I found distinguishable, and unsurprisingly so.

The brew carries a big bite, several steps up from the junior Pale Ale, appropriately. The hoppy-kick is paired with a nice malt level, just enough to balance the beer out.

I can't say much more or offer any more analysis than that. It's a solid IPA.

Pours an effervescent amber with 2 fingers of pearl white head. Good head retention & average lacing

S: Breadyness & herbal hops

T: Breadyness, lemony & grassy hops, dryness & leafy hops, all kind of muted & jumbled. Fruittyness, a bit of booze warmth & faint leafy hops as this warms. Finishes fruitty with muted herbal & woody hops

MF: Medium bodied, brisk carbonation & okay balance

Drinks all-right, tastes some what stale, since there is no freshness dating, who knows?

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a clear copper, with a finger or so of off-white foamy head. This retains with a nice frothy ¼ finger that throws a sticky and rich looking cascade of lace up on the sides of the glass. The aroma is an even mix of tang and hops, with sticky notes of bread, caramel, and sweet fruit giving away to more bitter tones in the nose of citrus peel, grapefruit, and some spice. This is solid.

The taste has some well balanced hop flavors going on with it, as crisp bitter fruit and spicy earth are nicely evened out by the sweet twang of the malts and some sweeter citrus character. The finish is strong, with a dry gritty bitterness that really sticks in the mouth. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a smooth crispness that sits on top of some silky feeling underlying slickness. There's a little warmth in the body but this is otherwise feels alcohol free for the most part.

This wasn't half bad at all, with its surprisingly robust, yet balanced, hop presence and a fairly easy drinking body on it. Considering that is from the Lion, the price point comes in pretty low as well and makes this a solidly affordable hop fix.

Definitely the best one I've tasted so far in the variety pack. Sort of pearish colored. The hops are noticeablely sweeter in the finish. The smell is piney. Has a pleasant bitter finish. Has a crisp smooth feel to the tongue. Very drinkable member of the aipas

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a pretty amber color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is overwhelmingly of hops. Taste is like the smell, very hoppy, considerably bitter. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and is not a beer I could drink many of. Overall a decent brew but a bit hop heavy for my liking.

A 12 oz bottle from Al's.

A: The IPA is an amber caramel color, opaque in my glass. A two finger head leaves decent lacing behind, especially near the mouth of my tumbler.

S: The nose is piquant, hoppy upfront. As the warms, the aromas evolve, releasing more caramel malts. Those malts are syrupy and sweet, more than able to stand up against the hops. The hoppiness is impressive for a Stegmaier ale, pleasantly citrusy.

T: My first sip floored me, heavy with citrus bite. Far more hoppy flavor than I expected. My second sip brought me back down to earth a bit, showing off more caramel malt flavors that overpower the hops at times. The sweetness of the malts lingers, with fruity flavors following. A nice bite of citrus hangs around throughout, not intense just there.

M: The syrupy flavors dictate the mouthfeel, paving over the sharper citrus notes and evening the flavors out. The mouthfeel is nothing special until you realize that it came from the Lion!?!

D: Not bad, not bad at all. An IPA that could fill that low cost niche, especially with its bright start.

A: Medium brown in color, very little head, and what is there dissipates almost immediately.

S: Malt centric with a lot of caramel and toffee some light hoppiness in there in the form of orange peel, but man you have to search for it.

T: Holy malt. This is a very malt centered beer for being an IPA. There is a bit of residual bitterness in the the finish, but for the most part it tastes like slightly overdone toffee. I can get into malt centric IPA's as well as hop bombs, and this one misses the mark.

M:Medium body with fairly high carbonation.

O: Overall just a huge miss, not even very enjoyable aside from not meeting style characteristics. Not bad, just not good.

nice amber color and a moderate head of white on the top. Even color and a nice carbonation throughout the session. The aroma was nicely balanced. Light pine hops, hints of bready malts and a light touch of caramel on the nose. Well balanced but nothing really jumping out at me. Smooth, even flavor here with the first sip identical to the last.
