We set out to create an IPA that would satisfy the palettes of even the biggest hop heads, and that was a task we didn't take lightly. Our interpretation combines several different types of hops to create a balanced, citrus flavor profile that will leave you thinking about it around the clock. Try a Hoppy Hour IPA for the perfect combination of grassy hops, grapefruit sweetness, and a hint of smooth caramel. With flavor like this, it's always time for a Hoppy Hour.

Poured from a tap at the source
Amber caramel colored semi clear with a soapy cream colored head, decent lacing and cap. Nice looking beer
Aroma of roasted malt, citrus and a bit earthy, not very pungent
Taste is pretty astringent, roasty, some acidic citrus nots, kind of earthy, not bad
Mouthfeel was kind of one dimensional, a lot of bitter but surprisingly smooth drinking
Overall it hit the right buttons for a west coast style IPA in my opinion. Pretty good drinking beer but nothing real stood out, I thought the balance of roasted malt and hops was nice, mouthfeel wasn’t very layered to me. I’d like to try it again.

Poured on-tap at The Mash House and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a hazy, copper-bronze coloring with a white, filmy head. Nose of tangy hops, subtle caramel, and roasted notes. Flavors are resinous forward, with a blend of pine tassel, grapefruit sweetness, orange rind, pepper, and caramel. Tasty. Smooth and mid-bodied, with a great lacing left behind on the glass. The aftertaste is bitter and resinous, with a smooth, dry finish. Tasty brew.

This is by far the worst beer I have ever tasted. It was so bitter it would make you shudder. Does it stink? Urrgh. I tried it about 6 years ago and I will never forget its awfulness. Those of you who said you must have gotten a bad bottle, well I got 6 of them. I'm kind of thinking Mash House intended for Hoppy Hour to taste like that. Even now, I wish I had my money back. I gave it to two of my friends and they couldn't drink it. These are two guys who can drink Schafer without thinking twice about it.

This IPA shows a clear golden amber color with a nice white head and solid lacing. The aroma is light citrus grass and mild caramel. Nothing too strong or unusual but pleasant enough to suggest some hops and good IPA to come. The flavor follows suit with a very pleasant blend of caramel malt and grassy hops. Nothing complex or highly memorable, but very solid and easily recommnedable. This stuff is medium bodied with mild carbonation that provides an easy flowing feel. Not bad at all and a pleasant surprise.

On tap at Tribeca Tavern in Raleigh

A - dark, cloudy orangish amber with a soft, white head that has great retention

S - citrusy, grapefruit

T - light bready malt, light toastiness, grapefruit, spicy, herbal, floral, bitter finish

M - medium bodied, smooth, crisp, a little heavily carbonated

This is a decent IPA. It has a nice, solid hop character and it's easy to drink. It's worth checking out.
