I stopped in here with a buddy on Saturday. I had never been to a Trader Joe's before so I wasn't sure what to expect as far as beer goes, but I was pleasantly surprised. They had a pretty good selection of 6packs, I'd say about half local brews and the other half TJ brand beers. The craft brews included New Glarus, Bell's, Flying Dog, Capital and a few others. There were a few bombers on the top shelf including Rogue.

My favorite part about this place is that their singles prices were 1/6 of the 6pack prices which were very reasonable! I love this feature and this is the first time I've seen this. I bought quite a few singles and will be back for more when those run out.

We were in the area this weekend, and popped in this TJ's for supplies. Might as well peruse the beer...

Pretty good as far as beer goes, not much in the way of imports, but solid locals such as Hopalicious and Capital Maibock. There was Two Hearted, some Rogue, a number of house brands, and a limited amout of craft staples (mostly in sixers). The beer was located along the back (east) wall. Everything was clean and dust free. In other parts of the store, there were a couple of sixer display encaps, one featured Capital Blonde Doppelbock. The cashier was energetic and friendly, making small talk with everyone. The beer at this TJ's was pretty self explanatory, there were maybe 50-75 brands total. Pretty much a locals only place, a convenient beer stop when getting groceries.

I popped into this Trader Joe's with one goal in mind: picking up some local beers at a good price. Mission accomplished. They had singles of Capital and Ale Asylum beers at very cheap prices. They had some other stuff I normally don't see in Missouri, like Kennebunkport beers. Otherwise, it was typical Trader Joe's stuff, Sierra Nevada, Rogue, North Coast and Samuel Smith's. Plus they carried the usual TJ stuff like their own brews and Joseph Brau beers. It is always a great deal. I only popped in to the place because I was eating dinner across the street, but I came away pleased.

I took the bike here one day and bought more than my backpack could handle. It's a one-minute walk from several other worthy establishments (Brasserie V, Wine & Hop Shop, etc). The overall quality is typical Trader Joe's...lower-priced higher-end products, stopping short of highly specialized or expensive fare. I stocked up on lots of singles, and was able to sample a couple discounted products (Kennebunkport Pumpkin) I didn't want to buy in larger quantity in case I didn't like it, and a few other familiar faces that I like (Rogue, Flying Dog, Pranqster, etc.). I bought a bottle of the Trader Joe's 2007 vintage ale, and a little vino on the side, along with a hunk of tasty cheese. All-in-all a good stop, and this is not my beer HQ, but it's good to stop by every couple months and see what else they've got. I can't comment on the service specifically in the libations area, but overall, the service in the store is good, and the staff is helpful and friendly.

Madison’s new Trader Joe’s houses a selection similar if not identical to other Trader Joe’s in the Midwest including lots of Rogue bombers, Trader’s Joes’ own German style house beers, their Unibroue beer, some local craft brews, north coast 4 and 6 packs, and a hodgepodge of imports. Prices range from fair to outstanding, particularly on North Coast Products. I haven’t bumped into any staff in the liquor department yet so I can not comment on that factor. It’s not necessarily a destination for beer but it is fun to be able to shop for brews when your girlfriend drags you there to by Tofu. Be sure to check out Barrique’s Wine Cave across the street if you go.
