On tap at Barley's Smokehouse #2 in Columbus, OH -- from a firkin with Citra dry hopping
Orange-amber-orange color; quite hazy with a durable but small off-white head. Some lacing.
A: very hoppy aroma with plenty of citrus plus some herbal and earthy/funky hops.
T: somewhat like aroma, but less earthy and more cooked vegetable only mild-moderate bitterness.
M: low, soft carbonation (firkiin); near medium body seems a tad light.

ZIPA pours a really nice copper color. It’s very hazy, much moreso than I expected. Backlighting gives it nice orange and slightly garnet highlights. A soft, white collection of bubbles covers the surface and rises to a little less than a finger in height. It dissipates rather quickly, leaving behind a very light, spotty lacing on the glass.
The nose is good. It is fruity and hoppy up front. The hops smell citric, and it definitely includes a strong orange scent. Citric hop notes of grapefruit and pineapple are also present. Honey is present and is easy to pick out. The malt base smells sweet. Caramel is definitely there, but it doesn’t smell overly strong. Smells a little earthy and grainy throughout. Alcohol is blended pretty well. Not sure of the alcohol content. Restaurant menu said 8.5%. Website says 6%. I’d guess closer to 6.
This is really good stuff. It does have a caramel malt base. It’s sweet, but the caramel flavor isn’t all that strong. Orange, pineapple, and grapefruit flavors are all noted and are delicious. The orange flavor comes through nice and strong. It works really well with the honey flavor that emerges. The hops give it a bit of a bitter kick, but they malt base and honey seem to balance it out quite a bit. Alcohol is noted, but doesn’t seem all that strong. I’m still guessing closer to 6%. If it is 8.5%, it sure wears it well. Finishes sweet and fruity with a twist of honey.
ZIPA has a medium body. Carbonation is active, but isn't buzzy. It definitely goes down smooth and easy. I won’t polish off the entire growler, but I’ll make a nice dent. It’s enjoyable.
Barley’s did a nice job with ZIPA. The collision of honey, orange zest, and cascade hops produce a really nice, refreshing flavor. If you have the opportunity, head down and grab a growler while you can. Easy recommendation.

On-tap at Barley’s Smokehouse and Brewpub, Columbus, OH
A: The beer is relatively clear yellowish amber in color. It poured with an off white head that left a large patch of bubbles in the center of the glass and a thin collar around the edge.
S: There are light aromas of citrusy hops in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of citrusy hops along with notes of honey and hints of orange. There is a moderate to strong amount of bitterness.
M: It feels more than medium-bodied and a bit crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is rather easy to drink because the bitterness is not overpowering and the alcohol is well hidden from the taste. There is a good balance between the malts and hops.
