This place is a must visit for beer lovers in the area. Plenty of free parking nearby. The bar is a bit small, I took the last stool and this was 7:30 pm on a Monday night. The room with the bar has several tables and there is a large overflow room adjacent. I guess there is a game room upstairs with ping-pong and other games. The beer selection is amazing. I would guess 20 German beers, a few local beers, and a couple of Rogue beers all on tap. The bottle selection is equally impressive with the usual BMC available if need be. The best part was that all pint drafts were $2.50 on Monday. It has been a long time since I have seen $2.50 pints. All the beers are served in Imperial pint glasses or slightly larger mugs. I see some more specialty glassware hung above the bar.

The food is a combination of athentic German cuisine and American standards of burgers and sandwiches. I had the Weisswurst with potato salad and potato pancake. The food was great and the service was great.

I've been here countless times. beer selection is not as good as it used to be, but everyone should still be able to find something on tap that they like. food is and always has been very good, especially if you go for the german fare, the jager schnitzel is one of my favorites. world cup soccer isn't real big in the QC, but this is a fun place to watch if you're into futball. oktoberfest celebration in late september is not to be missed, with a big outdoor tent, polka band, barrel rolling contest, etc.... always a good time!

An A+ huh? Interesting...

Stopped in here as it happened to be right next door to Bent River brewpub. Shiny black sign lettering outside with blond wood framing the window/faux doors. Sign board outside listed a tenderloin special and macro beer special.

Inside it had a sort of faux cozy feel, high ceilings with shiny copper panels on the ceiling. Some German signs here and there, but if I hadn't seen the extensive menu, I wouldn't have pegged this bar as a German "bierstube" in the literal sense. Baseball on the several flatscreens, and Jagermeister dispensers behind the bar. Uncanny blonde bartenders that looked almost like twins. Vibe was kinda sportsbar-ish.

36 taps running, but honestly not many to get a beer geek excited. The Schlafly seasonal was their APA, which I love, but the beer I got tasted almost medicinal. Other taps were a blend of mainstream craft, and about a third macro. German beers seemed to be the strong suit, especially on the bottled menu.

Crowd during the afternoon was laid back, seemed to be regulars. Servers tended to congregate and chat, but it was pretty slow. Didn't impress as much as the Bierstube outpost in Davenport, which had a better tap selection, servers, and a much more cozy vibe.

Q: What's the only thing better than a popular beer bar?

A: An unpopular beer bar!

Bent River is right down the street. Seriously, on the same block. We were out walking in the severe cold and didn't even mind it, the walk was so short.

Decent jukebox. Smokeless like all places in Illinois now. And it was Friday night and almost completely dead. No scenesters, no hipsters, no businessmen, no hippies, no college kids. No one. It was like heaven. There was also a room upstairs with ping pong and a Nintendo 64, for some reason, and if you're with a group of jaded men in their early to mid twenties that's just super nice.

Tap selection was crazyass big, even if some of the selections were a little expensive. The beer list on the website is hideously out of date and the only way to see what's on tap is by checking out the handles.

Bartender had that insular way about her. It was like we were outlanders and she was sizing us up. Places that don't get too much business tend to be like that, though, and it's not like she was particularly mean or anything. It was too late to try the food.

Moline's got itself a nice little beer district.
