L: Pours fairly clear brown with ruby highlights under a 1” quickly dissipating off-white foam cap. S: Has some tart wine notes with fruit and spice with some malt in the background. The wine aromas are medium, the fruit and spice are medium low and the hop aromas are low. T: Lightly tart red wine, some medium low oaky astringency, medium low malt in the background, medium hop bitterness, traces of fruit, apple, cherry and dark grape. The tartness is medium to medium low, oak astringency is medium, traces of tannins. Malt is medium low. The tartness, tannin, oak and a touch of mineral balance a medium to medium low sweetness. F: Very creamy, very fine soft carbonation, medium to medium low body, medium oak and tannin. O: An interesting and innovative beer.

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter

A - It is a burnt orange color bordering on copper. It is topped with an inch of large bubbled tan head that doesn't stick around long.

S - The wine characteristics of the Cabernet Sauvignon come through in the smell. It has a slight tart smell to it.

T - This amber ale soaked up a lot of flavor from the Cab Sauv barrels. It is acidic with some grape peel taste and a slight tartness. It has a dry finish.

M - Medium

O - This is an interesting beer. I have not had the opportunity to try many wine barrel aged beers. This is a good start. I like it.

A: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a dark brownish color and a hazy consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Average lacing.

S: A slightly fruity, acidic smell - something vinous - along with other types of fruit.

T: The vinous quality of the aroma is found in the flavor and it's quite acidic. There's a little dark fruit and yeast, but little else. This flavor is a bit thin and combined with the grapes, it's just a little flat.

M: A fair amount of carbonation with a sharp finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is something of a disappointing beer. It's not quite fully formed or all that interesting. Not the worst BDA, but there are certainly better examples of it.

A: This poured a cloudy light mahogany with quickly dissipating light tan head.
S: It smelled like juicy cranberries and tart red wine vinegar, with some funky oak and brown sugar and red grapes.
T: It tasted like musty cranberries and sweet brown sugar, with some funky oak and tart red wine vinegar. It had a somewhat clean and tart aftertaste.
M: It was thick with moderate carbonation. Big body.
D: This was an ok sour with lots of red wine character in the scent and taste. Not super crisp or delicious though, and the body wasn't right for the style. The finish was a bit rough too, so it must be sipped. Interesting to try once.
