This Russian Imperial stout is just bursting with an abundance of character! One of our biggest beers, coming in at 9.5% abv, is sure to be the new favorite of stout fans. Giant Slayer is an intense stout that presents itself with huge roasted, chocolate, and coffee malt flavors. Although well hopped, this beer is still very balanced. Giant Slayer provides a rich, full bodied drinking experience with dark hints of old world style.

The pour was stout black with a seriously aggressive brown head that limited the amount of the 12 oz can into a snifter that holds over 16 oz.
The aroma was lost on me, stupid Covid.
The taste was surprisingly fruity. Granted, the fruit was raisin and plums and, curiously, citrus fruit.
There were roasted malts and cacao and coffee as well, typical stout stuff, but they were second to the fruit. Very little hops or any bitterness.
The feel was viscous enough, not too much, not too little.
Tasty stout, just a little different than the typical.

Sampling a 12 oz can filled at the brewery on 3/12/2023. Pouring a cellar temp into my snifter. the beer pours a rich dark cola brown with no light passing through the glass. A dense tan head foams up about .5 cm. this foam fades to a sturdy edge layer and one large wispy island that floats throughout the sampling. Dense clingy lattice forms when I take a sip or swirl my glass.
The aroma on this beer is dark malts with some dark chocolate, figs, brown sugar and a bit of raisin. Fruitier than I expected, but also not boozy and no hop character either.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine and fairly gentle carbonation. Texture is smooth and not too sticky on my palate.
Flavor is some dark chocolate, again brown sugar and fig, with a bit of a chalky cocoa powder note. No hop character on the flavor profile and the booziness is pretty well hidden. The fig flavor is actually what linger son my palate after each swallow.
A tasty RIS that I am glad to have had a chance to sample.

This was a decent imperial stout but a little too sweet and cloying for me. Pours a very deep, rich dark brown, almost black color with a little tan head and minimal lingering lacing. Smells faintly of some medium roast coffee, stone fruit and caramel. It tastes mainly of very sweet raisin, currant, plum, brown sugar and molasses. There’s also more restrainted medium roast coffee, milk chocolate, caramel, malt and a little yeast in the background. Not as well balanced as I would have expected. This was overall a decent imperial stout but the taste was overwhelmingly too sweet without much hoppy balance. Smooth, thin mouthfeel which seemed a little dense at times but not overly complex. Decent carbonation. Just not as rich and full as I expected from imperial stouts and really just too sweet with a little bit too much acidity at the finish.

Pours a black color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and a hint of alcohol. Taste is sweet. Alcohol kicks in shortly after.

Appearance: poured a pitch black color with some added viscosity. The head was bright reddish brown and was somewhat 'active' with all the bubbles popping.

Aroma: instantly smell some mild hop aroma. Not as strong like the Storm King stuff. A blend of sweet milk and white chocolate and subtle dark fruits comes in.

Taste: very sweet with tons of dark fruits. Drinks almost like a quad. Also a layer of milk chocolate that lingers in the aftertaste. At bit more hoppy than other stouts but still well balanced.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied and slick.

Overall: not too different than many other stouts but still a good one for the style.

Bought a single 12oz bottle and drank from a snifter.

Dark brown, nearly black beer with a thin tan head & lacing. First sip was delicious! Perfect balance of chocolate, malt, caramel, hops, and bourbon. For some reason, the rest of the beer tasted incredibly boozy. Still an enjoyable beer, but not incredible like I initially thought.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, fudge, raisin, prune, date, licorice, light smoke/char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and moderate fruity yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, fudge, raisin, prune, date, licorice, light smoke/char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate roast/char and herbal/spicy hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, fudge, raisin, prune, date, licorice, light smoke/char, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Good complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate fruity yeast ester flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from roast/hop bitterness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth and creamy/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a pretty good Russian imperial stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. This is a little too heavy on the English yeast presence, but still does have some nice stout complexity going on as well. An enjoyable offering.
