Bottle King in Glen Rock has a decent selection of US Micro's, Belgians, Germans, and Macro's. John is the main force behind the quality beer and he knows his stuff.

Its a good place to order cases too. As long as they have a distributor they work with that carries what you are looking for they will get it at a good price. Sometimes its best to find out who distributes what you are looking for and then simply call Bottleking and ask John if he works with that distributor. If so your golden.

Some of the usuals on the shelves include:

Ommegang
Dogfish Head
Victory
Founders
Chimay
Stone
Rogue
Schneider
Brooklyn

Q: The quality of the place is quite nice. A fair representation of craft brews, both in and out of the case. They have multiple Lindeman's available, at least at the time when I went last week. I have only been there the one time, so maybe it might be like other Bottle King's and have a rolling selection that constantly changes. If so, that would be quite nice.

Service: The service was great. I was walking around maybe five minutes before I was approached by someone. He seemed very knowledgeable of both the different types of beers as well as the various brands they had available within the store. He definitely knew I was hunting for something a little bit different than your everyday Miller or Bud Light.

Selection: The selection was quite nice. As I mentioned before, a fair share of craft brews both in and outside of the case. A decent set of single bottles to choose from if you are looking for a good session beer. I picked up some Pomme and a few Ommegang brews while I was there. For us NJ folk, where it can be hard to find places that sell single bottles, you can always join the BK Club to help save a few bucks on the sixers you purchase when you are looking to explore new beers. I will definitely be returning here again.

If you live in New Jersey, you're probably familiar with the Bottle King chain of liquor stores. The typical Bottle King boasts an excellent selection of fairly-priced wines and liquors, but treats beer, particularly craft beer, as an afterthought. So it was with some hesitation that I made a convenience beer run to the Glen Rock store. I happily found myself pleasantly surprised and encouraged...

Glen Rock's Bottle King is not incredibly accessible, but it's not in the boondocks either, just a few minutes from Rte 4 and Rte 17 near Paramus. The store, like most Bottle Kings, is clean and well-lit. Basically one large room, the beer is stocked in the back.

There's a small rack of 22 oz bombers and a few 750 ml bottles...nothing outrageously rare, but some good American micros like Rogue and a few Belgians, Chimay for example. The 6-pack selection was a mildly nice surprise...the usual suspects like Sam Adams and Magic Hat, sure, but also Stoudt's, ClipperCity/Heavy Seas, Brooklyn (Chocolate Stout rocks!), a few others. The point being, I didn't feel like I had to settle for something I didn't want...

Then there's the prices...take the 2 minutes to fill out a form and join their free price club. What you'll get in return are some amazing prices...how's about Stoudt's Fat Dog Stout or Double IPA for $7.86 per sixer? Pocono Lager (no it's not life-changing, but it's an ok beer) for $3.99? Heavy Seas beers for $7.99? Sign me up...

The service is friendly, and willing to talk beer, but you will probably know more about the beer there than they do.

So here's the point; don't make the Glen Rock Bottle King your go-to place for a vast selection of fantastic beers. For that, head to Oaktree Buy-Rite in South Plainfield...mmm, Oaktree...

...but I digress. If you live or find yourself near Glen Rock, and you're looking for a convenient and inexpensive store with a decent selection, this is a perfect destination.
