Served in a pint glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Thin black body dropping off like a motor oil color with a tan head. Settles quick before I pick up the glass.

Smell: You feel a liquor scent, light chocolate but hints of hops.

Taste: Sweet heavy molasses and vanilla bean. Light mocha feel with a hint of rum. It's complex with a little extra sugar and bitter smoothness.

Mouth: Sticky and heavy after-taste. Thin body with medium bubbles.

Overall: Good brew and blessed to have this gem. Always in a glass and if you are lucky to have it, drink up. Salud.

750 mL bottle along side the Maestros 25 year rum, which was a treat. Black body. Smells of fruity rum. Rum and dark fruit. Some roasted malt. Tastes very roasty. Rum up front, lends a fruity component. Oak. Bitter chocolate back end. Alcoholic and kinda sweet. Giant beer, but good.

Bottle 740

A: Pitch-black pour with a small but very dense dark brown head. Despite the small head it does stick around very well, with some decent lacing to boot.

S: Well, certainly rum barreled. Smells strongly of a very smooth and mellow rum. A touch of char and bittersweet roasted malt character under it. Very light dark fruit character and a bit of smoke.

T: Yow. Huge rum uppercut to the face. Super strong and super bold. It's good rum too but boy is it harsh! Huge stinging alcohol from the start and continuing through the belly-warming aftertaste. Rums covers everything, there is very little stout character to this. You get a little char here, a little smoke there, maybe some hints of dark chocolate. But it's pretty much just rum otherwise.

M: Heavy but the huge rum aspect thins it out nicely.

O: A must-have for the rum lover but I was hoping for a little more. You know, some actual beer flavors. Oh well. It was good but the black albert base is missed dearly!
