Sampled from a 33cl bottle I picked up in Brussels. Vintage 2006. Best before March 2014.

A - A mahogany brown with some light coming through. Very little head.

S - Oak, brown sugar, plums and a touch of red wine. Very nice.

T - Rich but smooth with lots of brown sugar and caramel with notes of fig, raisin, oak and black pepper. Entertaining from start to finish. Warming but the 10% alcohol is well hidden.

M - Creamy with very little carbonation.

O - A thought provoking beer.

33cl bottle at Kulminator in Antwerp, 2005 vintage (hell it was 10 euros, why not?).

A- Pours nearly black, finger of khaki head, great retention and lacing.

S- Smells awesome. Lots of caramel, candy, raisins, and molasses. It's a very sweet aroma but isn't cloying at all. Really nice.

T- A bit of cherry sourness, probably due to the age? Soft, smooth sweetness, caramel, lots of dark fruit, finishes oaky and vinous. Tastes noticeably oxidized and stale, the sourness also just doesn't taste like it belongs here.

M- Medium-bodied, a bit of warmth at the end, alcohol is pretty invisible for being so big though.

O- Not bad overall, the aroma is still incredible, and there are a lot of good flavors in there, but this beer is certainly over the hill by now. I'm not gonna ding it too hard on the score though because I can tell how good this used to be, need to get a fresher bottle of this ASAP.

2005 vintage enjoyed many times. Reviewed 5/28/15

Appearance: The deepest brown-red you've seen, totally opaque.

Aroma: Rich blend of dark fruit, vanilla, oak, assorted spices, and chocolate.

Flavor: Follows the notes on the nose, but more pronounced dark fruit and oak. Vanilla is present but in the background.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, drinkable, no booze.

Looking forward to the chance to compare a fresher bottle and update accordingly.
