Picked this up at Bierhandel Willems en zoon in Belgium. Beautiful clear mahogany pour with a two finger off-white head with decent retention and nice lacing. The nose is amazing with huge vanilla, bourbon, and oak notes along with hints of butterscotch, orange peel, caramel, brown sugar, and subtle dark fruit. The taste mirrors the nose with the oak, vanilla, and bourbon once again the stars. Hints of maple, caramel, pecans, leather, tangerine, figs, apple, brown sugar, and booze. The mouthfeel is lightly syrupy with perfect carbonation and a smooth as silk, subtly warming finish. Overall, this is an amazing beer! It's rich and flavorful and hugely drinkable for an 11% ABV beer. I've had this numerous times on tap, but this is the first time from the bottle. I have to say it's just as good, and perhaps has mellowed a bit in the cellar. For me, this is a Barley Wine disguised as a Quad. Highly recommended!

This is a interesting beer brewed by De Struise Brouwers back in 2011, in collaboration with brew master Ryohei Sugawara San from RIO BREWING & CO (Japan).
First aging for one year in Saint Emillion Tour Baladoz wine oak barrels. After that on bourbon barrels from Kentucky. Finally Struise bottled contition this ale in august 2014.

A little bit hazy, mahogny colored beer with a small, yellow-white head that dissapears fast. No lacing on the glass.

Nose: Raisin, plum, citrus, tart, brown sugar, fudge, coffee, honey, vanilla, bourbon and caramel malt.
Taste: Oh! This is soo good! Very complex! Sweet caramel malt, bourbon, plum, molasses, dried fruit, raisin, vanilla, oak barrels, mandarin and dark syrup.
Body: Full, complex body with crisp and yet soft carbonation.

This is a masterpiece! I'm truly in love. I bought 5 bottles but now I just GOT to get hold of a couple more...

Hazy dark amber pour, small creamy light beige head, will last a while.
Big oak barrel on the nose, with warm sweet Bourbon popping out mostly and lots of vanilla. Rich fermenting raisin and plum, some fig jam, faint candied cherries, Port wine, toffee, sticky caramel, faint chocolate cake, faint rum, plenty of stuff, enough of this!
Wow, really tasty and complex. Starts with juicy fermenting dark fruit (raisin, fig, plum), some slightly tart berries, overripe peaches, apple mash, laced with honeyed red wine. Toffee, caramel pudding, with cane syrup, lots of oaky vanilla and great clear sweet Bourbon in the finish. Not too boozy, but warm and dry enough to put a cork on any dripping sweetness. Great woody notes, from damp wine barrel stave to toasted oak.
Aftertaste retains the double barrel goodness and caramelised fig, with a nice clinging Bourbon vapor, especially. Medium body, medium to low fizz.
As it warms, it gets a bit sweeter, but the alcohol still doesn't seem to pile up. Still, a rich, flavorful sipper, another big Struise hit.
