Poured from fridge temp. Pours a dark brownish-red. Pretty opaque. Very little carbonation, at least not much head. Nose is full of caramel, prunes, vanilla, black currant. Flavor is incredible. Huge notes of dark fruit and toffee. It reminds me of a BA English barleywine. Sweet upfront and tad bitter on the back end, but it's incredibly subtle. This really blew me away, and is my favorite from De Struise so far. Mouthfeel is incredibly nice - thick and creamy.

2012 vintage
Very good with Belgian yeast aroma, stone fruit flavors and sticky mouth feel, but not as sweet or deep in flavors as I would have hoped.

Poured from 2012 vintage 12oz bottle into Snifter glass. Bottled on December 7th 2016.

L: Slightly hazy red-brown. Finger width off-white head, recedes rather quickly into a ring.

S: Fig and apricot, some booziness as expected being double barrel aged. Bready yeast, spice. Oakiness as you swirl, with some vanilla. Quite the aroma on this.

T: Dark fruity esters, fig and apricot as expected. Vanilla, and bourbon with a lingering oak flavor. Tasty!

F: Medium-Full, crisp and clean.

O: A unique beer and a good beer.

11.2 oz. bottle
Labeled 10.5 % abv.
Bottled 12/07/2016
Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch off-white head over an ever so slightly hazy, reddish-amber body with minimal lacing. Head dissipates down to a ring in a few minutes.
Nose of dried apricots, raisins, and slight booze.
Taste follows with dried fruit, slight booze, and an exquisite mouthfeel.
Whoa!
Overall, this beer is so unique and so good!
Thank you Urbs!!!

Almost clear amber color with beige head. Aroma has dried fruits, caramel and some butterscotch. Taste starts with bourbon, slightly sweet at first with brown sugar notes and slightly bitter finish with burnt sugar notes. Medium body and carbonation. Overall it's a really nice bourbon aged strong ale.

what a heck of a beer, a slightly sour quad, funky and big, aged i believe in a bourbon barrel, it really isnt like anything else ive ever had. on tap at back country pizza of course, who else would have this right? and get this, its from 2008. yeah. heady. as a quad, im not in love with it actually. it lacks some of the elements i like to see in the style. it doesnt have much body, the booze is exposed, and its a little flat in feel. that said, all of those things seem to flatter this particular beer, which is nothing like the classic belgian quads at all. starting with a real funky yeast. not sure if it was intentionally this way or if it went weird over time, but i like it a lot. horsey and mildly acidic, super rustic and bold, but not too big for the base beer, which stands pretty large on its own, with all kinds of grain layers and residual sugar. there is oak on this for sure, and im guessing bourbon because of the nose, pungent vanilla whiskey and char, sort of odd with the funk, but it works for me. in a lot of ways this is almost too much, and crazy to think its this old. i bet it was radically different when it was brand new. interesting and challenging, but not something i needed more than one of. would love to try a bottle, and love to try it fresher. is it supposed to have that wild yeast element?
