Brewed by:
De Struise Brouwers

Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 13.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Numbers, couples, and Stout are at the heart of this nuptial ale, in this case known as NUPTIALE. Ashley and Trey received the blessing from family and friends to be married on 8.17.13. The sum of their wedding date is two, however it’s added together:

or 8+(1+7)+(1+3)=20…2+0=2

Struise is mindful of numbers and math, especially considering the above scenario. As 2 = a couple, we decided to make two versions of the NUPTIALE.

Alias A2 is our Black Albert, secondly fermented on peaches and aged in Anguilla Rum barrels. Alias T2 is the same ale, but secondly fermented with black currants and aged in Port barrels. Of course A stands for Ashley, T for Trey, and 2 being their lucky number.

Whenever you have such a bottle in your possession, it will be your lucky day upon opening this marvelous barrel-aged stout. Just like any couple though, one is not complete without the other.

Picked this up at a great little beer store in Arlon, Belgium, Miorge Mihoublon. Pitch black pour with a gorgeous two finger caramel-colored head with great retention and crazy lacing. The nose is a unique combination of fruity and roasty with a lot of vinous notes as well. Hints of mocha, espresso, subtle peaches, oak, dark chocolate, and booze. The taste follows suit with tons of roasty mocha and fruity peaches along with hints of espresso, oak, apricot, dark chocolate, subtle vanilla, vinous notes, and booze. The mouthfeel is a little on the light side for such a big stout, with fizzy carbonation and a subtly sour, vinous finish. And even though the booze is evident in both the nose and taste, the 13% ABV doesn't hurt the drinkability at all. Overall, this is yet another unique and flavorful offering from Struise!

To Ashley and Trey...

750ml capped bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a big, thick 2 finger dark mocha colored head with excellent retention. Beer is viscous and pitch black. Lacing is spotty with decent cling and huge legs. Certainly carries the Black Albert pedigree.

Nose is mild booze, lactose, chocolate, fudge, cocoa and the slightest bit of fruit sweetness. Peach flavor is nearly indistinguishable. Nice but a bit muddled.

Opens sweet chocolate, booze, lactose and liquorice. Dark fruit mixed with more alcohol bite and cocoa powder in the middle. Brownie and fudge towards the end with a helping of boozy molasses and sweet dark fruit at the finish. Lingering, sweet aftertaste. Really desert-y!

Full bodied with low carbonation. Smooth and silky in the mouth and warm and viscous going down. Finishes messy with a sticky, long, lingering aftertaste. Exactly what I want.

This is one heck of a beer and certainly worthy of a toast. I couldn't think of a better way to say cheers to the happy couple!

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Black with a big khaki head. Smells strongly of caramel. Lots of booze. I guess it's rum barrel. Some sort of bright aroma behind all of it. Taste is very sweet. Caramel and a fruity brightness that almost tastes acidic. After a while, as it warms up, it begins to taste like peaches. Heavy and boozy. Well carbonated. Intense. Strange fruit addition, but it kinda works.

Very tasty brew. 750 ml with cap and synthetic cork. Lots of nice thick mocha head. Mouth is decent, not overly thick. Tons of dried fruit and prune with a nice boozy finish. Holding up very well, could see this continuing to age gracefully.

75 cl. bottle sampled during Borefts 2013. Pours black with a very creamy mocha head. Nose is roast, light wood, roast, light berries & I can pick out peach skins because I am looking for thme. Taste is big roast, ashes, burned toast, coffee grounds, earth, liquorish, too roasted, thinner than other version & too high carb. Bitter herbs & no taste of the peaches what so ever. Black Albert with peaches sounds incredible but this was pretty disappointing. Easily the weakest Black Albert variant, so far, a downer.
