Pours a brilliant gold with off-white 2-inch collar of foam. The head is persistent. The carbonation appears average. This Dortmunder Gold has a nice, sweet, malty nose. The body is medium-full, with sweet, soft, malt notes on the palate, yet a dry finish. Some delicate hop notes but nothing bitter. This is clearly malt forward. Suggestions of biscuits and honey. Delicious. It lingers very nicely. Belgian lace does develop. This is definitely a repeat. and develop

Poured a golden color with a white head, thick and creamy with nice lacing on it. Aroma was of light corn and grass and so was the flavor similar, a little biscuit,

Happy New Atwater Brewery Beer Sunday (Week 664)! Each week, I try to gather several beers out of my backlog from one particular brewery for a brewery horizontal. This week is the exceptionally hit-or-miss Atwater Brewery from Detroit, MI, continuing with this beer.

From the bottle: "Dortmunder Gold Lager"; "Pairs with: Dressing to the Nines and Staying Out 'til Three."; "Born in Detroit. Raised everywhere."

I am running through these beers pretty quickly so I may have to switch to a different theme before the day is over. So be it. I began by Pop!ping the cap & then performing a very slow, gentle pour followed by an in-glass swirl. This last raised just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with moderate retention. Color was solidly Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9), as opposed to Gold, with NE-quality clarity. Nose was very malty, quite bready with a honey-like sweetness. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, big for a Lager. The taste was very pleasant, like freshly baked bread drizzled with honey but with just enough of a Noble hops presence to make me think of freshly-mown grass or hay. This was probably one of the better Lager-style beers that I have drank & reviewed in recent memory. Finish was in that twilight zone between semi-sweet & semi-dry. What I CAN tell you for certain is that if they were to put this beer in CANs, it would be fantastic on a hot, humid day outdoors.

I picked up a bottle of Atwater's Cash For Gold at The Lager Mill. I'm in the mood for something on the lighter side today and i'm interested to see what Atwater can do with this style, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label looks nice, it goes a little with the name and the name is the most eye catching aspect. It poured a nice amber color that took on a golden amber hue when held to the light with a finger and a half worth of creamy slightly off white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some nice rings of patchy lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, but I think the color is a little on the darker side for the style.

S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with some fruity yeast being the first to show up and it imparts a little bit of apple juice aroma with a slight bit of stone fruits coming through. Up next comes a doughy yeast aroma that leads into the malts which impart a pale malt, grainy, sweet malt, bread and bread crust like aroma. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, it's just a little more complex than most in the style.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the yeast still being the first to show up and it imparts all the same light fruity aspects that it did in the aroma. Up next comes a slight doughy flavors which leads into the malts which impart all the same aspects that they did in the aroma, but this time there's a slight toasted malt aspect. On the finish there's a real light herbal hop flavors with hardly any bitterness with a slightly herbal hop and malty aftertaste. This is a pretty nice tasting beer, just like the aroma it's a little more complex than most.

M- Smooth, pretty crisp, a little clean, on the thicker side of being light bodied with a slightly higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is good and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a nice beer and nice example of the style it had pretty much all the key aspects that I look for in the style and I liked that it was a little more complex than most. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple without getting bored with it. What I like the most about this beer is that is has a little more complexity than most in the style. What I like the least about this beer is the color, I wish it was a little lighter to be more true to style. I would buy this beer again when in the mood for the style and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice lager. All in all I was happy with this beer and It turned out to be a little better than I was expecting. It's not a favorite Atwater beer, but it is one of the better Dortmunder Lagers I've had in awhile. Nice job guys, this is a tasty Dortmunder, keep it up.

Look: Orange color with good clarity. White head.

Smell: Bready lager yeast, biscuit, sweet malts.

Taste: Bready lager taste, brown sugar, faint tea like hop flavor, with a slight bitterness.

Feel: Full bodied, well carbonated, mildly crisp.

Overall: A nice solid craft lager. This was cheaply purchased and easy to drink.

Poured from a bottle to a lager glass. Bottle clearly dated Jan 18, about a month old. Date is clearly labeled and easy to decipher, a big plus in my book.

The beer looks absolutely outstanding, it is very clear light amber color with a 1/2" bright white foam head. I could watch the television right through the glass, impressive clarity.

The flavor was very good, it had a slightly sweet malt backbone with a nice up front spicy noble hop flavor. It finished more sweet than bitter. I would prefer slightly less sweetness, but was still very nice.

The mouth feel was about right for a good quality amber lager. It has a medium body and not too dry.

Overall, a nice lager. I have not had many Dortmunder style lagers, so I cannot really say if it is to style. It seems about right for a German styled Lager. Will definitely buy again.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 1/18/2016. Pours crystal clear deep gold/amber color with 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and light yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and light yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, biscuit, light honey, light pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and robustness of bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness that slightly increases through the glass. Extremely clean on lager flavors with zero yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Dortmunder style! All around great robustness and balance bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth, clean, and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
