Our team really likes this beer. The only thing we've noticed is the batches aren't consistent. Varying amounts of vanilla and coffee. Seems Atwater is trying to find the right balance.

Pours dark and thick into a snifter. A half inch of creamy head lingers. It smells delicious and the taste matches. Not sure why the consensus rating is so low. Solid coffee porter

Pours a dark brown, settles in the glass black but brown on the edges. Head dissipated instantly.

Notes of coffee, chocolate, vanilla take the aroma.

Taste is a bit odd. It falls flat and lifeless with a stale coffee bitter that doesn't go anywhere, then the other notes start to activate and it comes together for a great finish and aftertaste. The roasted coffee and vanilla make a good combination, makes me want to try adding some to my morning coffee.

Light bodied, fairly smooth, medium carbonation, fairly drinkable.

A slow, stuttering start to a strong finish, this wasn't bad at all.

First an observation. If you freeze this what comes out tastes like a decent Imperial Stout. Eisporter! Ok on to bottle number two.

The aroma is dominated by coffee followed by lesser concentrations of roasted malt and some sweet cream and vanilla notes. The body is a dark ruddy brown and holds a diminishing thumb thick tan head.

It’s all spent coffee grounds through the fore and middle. Some roastiness and muted sweetness appear toward the backend. A hint of chocolate along with mild vanilla notes pops up in the aftertaste. It’s not a great beer, but it’s not great in an approachable way. It’s the kind of beer you’d never go out of your way for, but that you’d probably always finish a pint of. The mouthfeel is actually pretty good for the style, might even be slightly thicker than standard.

Drank from a home keg-dispenser out of a Sam Adams glass. Pours exceptionally well, great head but disapates quickly (story of my life). Robust coffee smell taste from start to finish, however light taste of the vanilla wish it were a little more. Low carbonation.

Pretty much middle of the road.

Atwater Vanilla Java Porter | Atwater Brewery. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's got a one finger thick tan head, spotty lacing, and a profoundly dark brown body.

I'm not really picking up on the vanilla and the coffee is barely noticeable.

Ok now I pick up the coffee and vanilla. Very rich, but too much.

Medium mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

Overall, I'll give Atwater Vanilla Java Porter | Atwater Brewery a 4.

Pours a deep blackish-brown with a thick full three fingers of light brown foamy head, very much like a rootbeer float. Smells sweetly of coffee beans, vanilla bean, and cocoa powder. Taste opens to a light watered down coffee flavor, faintest notes of vanilla, sweet maltiness. Has an odd characteristic of a metallic twinge to the tongue, lingers through the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light bodied with moderate carbonation, a little rough on the tongue. Drinkability suffers due to the lack of any strong characteristics that make for a good porter in my book.

A: Dark brown with an amber tinge, no visible carbonation. Topped with 3 fingers of beige head leaving a chunky lacing.

S: Coffee all the way, a good dose of vanilla cream, toasted malts, sweet and coke like.

T: Coffee and vanilla to the point it seems like it’s a black iced coffee. Light sweetness. Good dose of toasted bitterness on the end, light metallic note.

M: Medium thick body, low carbonation.

O: Sticks to the name, vanilla and coffee definitely there. Well done. My first by this brewer. l bought it in Frankenmuth’s Kroger, drank in New Hamburg, ON, Aug 26th, 2014.
