This beer does not hit the hype of it's title. A poor tasting stout with mild malts and mild chocolate flavor with a big dose of concentrated cherry juice that you can tell right away real cherries were not used in the brewing. I would strongly not recommend this one.

From the very old bottle, it pours a very dark brown, almost black with a small head, quickly dissipating to barely a ring. Sour cherry in the nose. The mouth is struck by the cherry flavor as well. Hmm.

This goes OK with cookies. The bottle I's drinking appears to be 9 months old. I don't know what that did to this brew other than ...

It is black and extremely foamy. There is a sour cherry aroma. The taste is overcome with cherries and sourness. I don't think I ever had a stout this sour. There aren't enough malts to overcome this overdose and I can't really taste hops at all. The yeast may be contributing to this as well as some over-the-hill-ness.

I couldn't really recommend this stout, but if you were looking for a weird, sour stout, go for it. At least it was reasonably priced.

Dark purplish-brown brew, with a mocha head with sub-par retention.

Sharp and slightly tart aroma, laced with powdered cocoa and a touch of coffee.

Flavor follows, leaning even more strongly toward tartness. Perhaps a bit of cherry skin on the flavor, although cherry flavors aren't particularly noticeable until the back-end. Bits of chocolate throughout, with a slightly ashy finish. Far too much tartness to be very enjoyable.

Very, very lively brew, with moderate sting and a slick finish.
