Very good beer for it's style. It is not trying to be a overly crafty brew with strong exotic flavors. It is an everyday beer, easy drinking, nice mild flavor, and moderate ABV. If you appreciate this style, then this is an excellent choice.

A shout out to the brewing traditions of yesteryear. I really love this beer from Atwater, it was an extremely rare find in a liquor store. The head had fantastic frothy retention, the lacing was consistent through out and was off white. Then the subtle hops and fruit flavors danced around after a smooth creamy finish. Great beer and one that is enjoyable throughout the entire year.

I was looking for a refreshing lager with a low alcohol content to drink in the warmer months and was pleased to find this. Unlike other craft lagers of this sort, it's not over hopped or insanely expensive. I paid $15.99 for a 15 pack at Meijer, which is quite a bit cheaper than the $11 a six pack price point of other craft lagers.

Btw, the beer advocate ABV listing is incorrect. I emailed the company and they confirmed the alcohol content is 4.2% by volume, which is what the can says. They told me their website incorrectly listed it at 4.9% and they were in the process of changing it. Anyway, you're not going to find many lagers with a 4.2% alcohol by volume and this much flavor, so if refreshing beers are your thing this is highly recommended.

later edit: I lowered my score a little bit after trying Perrin Light Lager. It blows Atwater lager out of the water as I far as I am concerned and will completely replace it for me. Atwater is still a good option if you can't find Perrin though.

Great choice if you want a good, drinkable craft lager that doesn't try to hard. Fits in very well with the craft lager in cans trend. If you're like me and looking for a little more out of your beer than your american adjuncts but don't care for double hopped, grapefruit, peach, mango i.p.a's, then try this. It's a bit pricey, but worth it for a nice hot summer session. Got to love the shout out to the old school detroit brewed stroh's can also, well done.

12 oz can as part of a Kroger mix a six. Cans has a few dents so it may have been dropped fairly hard at some point via an employee.

Look - About as golden and heady as you would expect a lager to be. High carbonation with decent retention.

Smell - Smells like a skunked pilsener. No real need to explain since we all know what that's like.

Taste - Grain husks with a moderate skunk. Fresh cut grass in the finish.

Feel - High carbonation with a thin body.

Overall - A decent lager but you won't find any frills and there's no real reason to make a return to it. Reminds me of an amped up version of an old lager I used to find at my local foodtown for $1 a tall boy in a bin called Port Republic. Better than the average cheapie.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 10/12/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear medium golden/yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A bit fruity/yeasty, but not overwhelming. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Fairly clean on lager flavors; light yeasty notes present, but not overwhelming. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp/grainy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a good Helles. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. Very good example of the style, just wish it was a little cleaner/less fruity on the yeast. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Short Review. I'm pretty sure I've had this beer before, so I thought it would be worth trying again. It's a solid lager that's pretty true to style, all the flavors and aromas are just what I would expect and it's a little more complex than the main stream lager. I like it and if it was somewhere and was in the mood for a lager I would have no problem getting a couple of these.

I was looking for a good beer I could drink everyday, or all day. I think I have found it. Atwaters Lager has a strong malt taste, not watery at all. The smell reminds me of when I first started to enjoy beer when I was younger. Overall a quality beer, I can buy in a 12 pack of cans.

Bought as a 12 oz can from an OKC liquor story's sale bin, so might be old.

That said, this was actually really good. Cloudy for a lager but full flavored. Good balance of hops and malt, crisp. Starts of slightly sweet but finishes dry. Very bready-notes, some slight mineral (but not in a bad way notes), maybe some grassyness.

Fuller mouthfeel than expected from the style.

I've soured on lagers but this one makes me kinda hopeful. Still smooth and crisp but also some nuance of flavor.

One more note--- other reviewers said their can was labeled as being brewed in Latrobe, PA, but mine does not so I assume it is brewed in Detroit.
