2013 edition, found on shelves. Mouldy, less so in last part of the bottle. More bitterness became of age? Hops in the finish. Drinkable, with food. Dark colour.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt notes with some bitter black chocolate notes is pleasant enough. Taste is also dominated by dry roasted malt with some bitter black chocolates notes. Belgian yeast provides light and quite subtle fruity notes with some cocoa also noticeable. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nice take of the style.

***2014 Vintage***

Nice coffee base mixed with Belgian stout makes for a tasty ale. Pitch black body with dark brown head.

I enjoyed the 2014 version. Beautiful beer to look at with one of the darkest heads I've ever poured. A little thinner than I'd like, but very well balanced with mild coffee and cocoa notes. I'd like it a little better if the booze was hidden a little better. All in all a very good beer from RJ. Thanks Ultrarunner100 for throwing this in as an extra.

This is brewed once a year around Christmas. I've got 2013 edition.

Big beer in a big bottle. Impressive blackness in the color with a very brown head... dark brown head that looks like ice cream. Sticky and dense too. The aroma is dominated by the chocolate with some roasted malts. Alcohol is noticeable too. Pretty intense on the nose, this one is introducing itself as being big just by the smell. In the mouth, its is bitter like a very intense espresso. Some coffee ground in the bitterness. Powerful bitterness... its a pretty robust beer. The alcohol is present too. Some chocolate in there too. The presence of hops is distinguishable too. Some piney. Wow... pretty intense taste for RJ. Never thought they would put out a beer that intense. Pretty awesome. Sweet and very complex beer. The taste lingered in the mouth for quite a long time.

Pretty big beer to have by alone... this one is for sharing. Tasty and boozy!

Cheers!

A: Very black and almost entirely opaque in my snifter. About a finger of head that really does look Belgian. It's got that large bubbled soapy appearance with carbonation streaming up the glass something unusual for a stout.

S: Very dark roasted malts. Perhaps a touch of a plastic like aroma.

T: Interesting. Fairly bitter and very roasty. Somewhat a bit too acrid for my liking actually. I feel like the Belgian bottle conditioning might have dried it out somewhat too much and gotten rid of any residual sweetness from the pre bottled beer. I can detect a slight bit of the Belgian yeast strain in the finish which presents itself as a bit of clove and maybe even some cherry if the drinker is really looking for it.

M: Too much carbonation in my opinion. Belgian style carbonation is not something that lends itself well to stouts or other American/English styles well. A touch thin as well , like I said it might be due to the overly attenuative belgian yeast. High carbonation can also make a beer seem thin as well and this could be doing it.

O: A decent beer but I could definitely see it shining with some more age on it. Also a surprisingly bold offer for Brasseurs R.J

Apocalypse from Brasseurs R.J. bought a 12 mix pack for 15,99$

Look: Dark, with a brown/dark head. About 1 finger of head.

Smell: Roasty coffee with a touch of caramel.

Taste: Like a espresso shot. Very roasty, some caramel on the aftertaste.

Feel: Very nice. Goes down really easily. No alcohol burn what so ever.

So overall would I recommend it? For sure. This is a awesome beer. And a really great Stout
