Pours a cloudy pale yellow, with a fluffy white head. Aroma of lemon, spices, yeast and pepper. Taste was excellent. Alcohol was well hidden. Quite fruity, yeasty, phenolic, spicy and balanced by a dry, hop bitterness. Fluffy, medium bodied, and smooth mouthfeel. Nice on draught.

Palish blonde, the head dissapear really really fast., no life form of any sort in my glass. A tiny fruity smell, nothing much, quite a shy smell in fact.
a hoppy taste, a medium bitterness , and an apricot taste I perceived, it also gave me stomachaches.

Water and spice, and spices like pepper and corriander and cloves, also bannana mid-sip I like to avoid. Nice lace. Alcohol not masked. Even worse than the bottle. Could not take more than a sip. Like a herbal tea with too much water and left over to cool.

This beer was brewed "under license" from the original Belgian brewery.

Appearance: A slightly cloudy, golden ale. Pours with a slight head that quickly fades. I used a Rapscallion glass for this tasting.
Smell: Very interesting; full of coriander, cloves, and some savory (cardamom?) notes.
Taste: Very spicy, coriander, cloves, pepper, maybe a little orange peel. Hard to see through the spice to any malt, but the is a subtle yeasty breadiness.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, full body, very lightly carbonated. Hides the alcohol well.
Drinkability: Suffers a bit from too much spiciness, but isn't the overpowering kind of spice that you get with ginger or cinnamon flavored beers. Could perhaps use some conditioning in the cellar to mellow out a bit.

I haven't had the original Achouffe, but I have had McChouffe. McChouffe was much more subtle than this beer, and I assume the same could be said for Achouffe. This beer was good enough that I will be seeking out the original. I encourage seeking this version out if you happen to be in Quebec.

Golden ale with a big head. Coriander, yeasts and orange in the nose. Yeasty taste, but perhaps not as much as most other Cheval Blanc. Lots of malt, curacao, banana, coriander. Hoppier than I expected, dry finish. Definitly not a real chouffe, but pretty solid nevertheless.
