Best before end of September 2006. So it is 23 days past date. Still tasted fine and I know this beer well so I feel no guilt using it for a review.

A- Red amber colour. Nice light beige head. Good bubbliness. An attractive beer.

S- Malt. Touch of hops. Touch of roastiness. Very ordinary.

T- Taste better than smell. Roastiness and caramell. Nice maltiness with just the right touch of hops. Lacking a little punch to be truly great. Needs to lose that slightly watery note in the middle and finish.

MF- Carbonation high but acceptable. Not too watery but could be fuller.

D- Very easy to drink. Good mealtime beer. A good everyday lager.

Hints of carmel with just the right amount of hops. This is an excellent beer.

Appearance: Poured with a finger of head that did lace decently but didn't retain as well as I would have liked. The body is a light crimson top with an amber bottom and notes of brown.

Smell: Has a dry, almost rye bread note to it as dry yeast seems to drown out a bready caramel malt. A slight orange note of citrus hops comes through. Warming helps it out, but only marginally.

Taste: That dry yeast note permeates though the whole beer, but in a good way as it mostly sticks to the background and seems to help contrast the other flavours. Starts with a mild fruitiness, the barest hints of stawberry comes to mind at which point the caramel malt kicks into higher gear delivering a healthy does before a slight nuttiness followed soon by a dose of mild earth and citrus hops.

Mouthfeel: The beer transistioning is a bti of a rougher ride, but a pleasent one as the carbonation helps out the enitre beer. The aftertaste have a bit of a mineral tasting cling to it where the remaining yeast and malt don't quite do enough here, but it's slight.

Drinkability: The beer is light bodied and the carbonation settles down in the right ways. It's a bit of a rare item for me to see a beer that has a dry note to it and pull it off well, which this one does. Didn't take me long at all to get through the bottle.

Final Thoughts: This is my 5th beer from this brewery and I'm starting to notice a trend. It seems their more basic (and more commonly Macro offered) styles are done well and right, but when the get away from that and brew something a bit more esotetic, it doesn't work out so well. Thankfully, this is one of the more basic styles and I enjoyed it. It's not quite a summer drinker, but certainly great on the porch during the spring and fall. Worthy of a whirl.

Copper/red in color with a really small head. Smell of caramel, some sweet malts and some grains too. Subtle taste of caramel and sweet malts, not that much flavors though. Nice carbonation in the mouth.
