Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Pooler, GA. This beer pours a pale clear yellow color. The aroma is full of malt and hops and is very pleasing. The flavor is crisp and and has a very nice malt flavor; very refreshing. Overall, I really enjoyed this beer a really good example of a Kolsch.

Pours to a thin white head that lasts. Minimal lacing. Golden color. Aroma is pale malts, some spicy hops and not much of that vinous character. Flavor is a pinch above standard continental lager. Mf is decent. Meh.

A: Very light straw colour with a very nice white as snow head.

S:Classic sweet pilsner aroma, reminds me of Germany. (getting excited)

T: The flavor so wonderful. Sweet pilsner malt, that nice bready/grain flavor, with a clean dry, crisp finish.

M: Nice higher carbonation, with a dryish lager finish.

O: A cheaper trip to Germany, probably the best commercial example you can find in America.

I was pretty curious about this beer, but i have to admit i'm a little disappointed. It looks fine: sparkly golden with a steady head of foam. The smell however is almost absent. The taste has a nice bitterness going on, but has still too much resemblance to an average euro macro lager for me. It is pretty refreshing though, i'll admit that. Guess Kölsch just isn't my glass of beer.

Pours a pale golden, thin later of head with some retention and lacing. Nose is leafy hops and light burnt toast malts. Flavors are more reminiscent of a euro pale lager, lacking the grainy toasted malts, and the hop profile is a bit too green and leafy. Decent but not a great representation of the style.

500ml bottle into pils glass. best before 28.07.15. consumed on july 8, 2015

a: clear golden-pale yellow with 3 fingers of fast-dissipating white head

s: a touch of floral hops but mostly sweet grainy-grassy malt. maybe even a touch of lemon, somewhat smells like sprite?

t: mineral-y with sweet lager malt and a very mild hop presence and bitterness. hints of fruit-like sweetness but i can't quite put my finger on what those fruits are. lacking in flavour power

m: light, close to watery, not a lot of carbonation

o: light and refreshing but that's it

330 ML bottle. No production date. Appearance: pale yellow, crystal clear, with a white foam head. Aroma: A bit papery and stale, some grassiness and light fruitiness. Overall, not pleasant. Sulphur also present v Taste: Stale, papery, grassy. Hint of crackery malt. Moderate bitterness Mouthfeel: Light body with moderate carbonation. Finish: Moderately dry with some lingering bitterness. Overall: Clearly not a fresh kolsch. This will be a drain pour but I would like to try a fresh version for comparison.

O: nice refreshing brew for summer

Had on tap in Berlin, poured into a small stein.

L: Pours a clear golden color. Thick creamy white head that falls rapidly.

S: Grains and mild floral hops.

T/F: Light pilsener-esque flavor. Crisp and clean. Mild hop bitterness at the finish. Moderately carbonated.

O: Clear easy drinking kolsch. A bit light on flavor but clean and refreshing.

Drank this all day long whilst visiting Cologne.
Its Golden in colour and served in a tiny 0.2 glass, the head doesn't stick around for long and he carbonation is weak, but it's there...
The smell is fresh and floral and slightly buttery. Taste and feel wise, it's smooth, clean and crisp, with a refreshing after taste, goes down extremely easy - not too full in flavour though, slightly simple and bland.
Overall a very different and nice beer to try, enjoyed my fair share during the day !

If we are rating beers within their style, then, since this is one of the most highly rated Kolsch beers, wouldn't it be good for at least a 4? Nobody appreciates a beer that's only 4.8% ABV anymore. It's not "extreme" enough. Phooey. This is a beautiful beer. I'll have another please. And then maybe another after that.

I enjoyed this one overall. It poured a straw yellow. The aroma was floral and almost soapy. Nice clean, smooth and refreshing taste and feel. Not the most flavorful beer, but something that would hit the spot for wetting the palate, a hot summer day and/or session brew. I did not like it as much as reissdorf kolsch, but will still get it again.

Probably this is just not my style. I honestly don't think it's better than any other mild lagers out there. Even a little bit skunky, which I really did not expect.

5 litre mini keg. Golden and very clear. Taste is very soft and refreshing. Buttery bread. Minimal hops. Extremely sessionable. I would recommend to anyone looking for an easily drinkable, refreshing, & quality brewski. Would buy again.

Light to medium pilsner malt aroma with very light medium noble hop aromas at the end. No DMS or diacetyl. Pale yellow in color with spectacular clarity. Poured with a fizzy bright, white foam with low retentioin that quickly dissipated. Light to medium body with crisp, medium carbonation through the middle and a slight puckering sensation near the finish. Pilsner malt flavor is dominant with light noble hop bitterness near the finish that provides a pleasant balance. Crisp dry finish with light pilsner and bready aftertaste. Crisp, refreshing and easy drinking.

Appearance: Poured with a half finger of head, with high body carbonation that quickly disappeared. Speaking of the body, there's quite a bit of sandy looking particulate floating in it. It's a pale yellow, as is the norm.

Smell: Not very much going on, even with warming. Smells like a weak generic Kolsch, meaning primary straw smell with a peppery undertone. Nothing bad, it's just too absentee for my liking.

Taste: Most Kolsch I've had, the peppery spice note doesn't start the beer, but it does here and then the straw malt with a hint of lemon and ending with another touch of earth and pepper. Very clean.

Mouthfeel: As I said, very clean and crisp. The aftertaste sticks mostly to the malt with only a hint of pepper. The carbonation helps out the start of the beer but doesn't quite pan out near the end.

Drinkability: It's crispness helps to make it refreshing and it's lighter body helps it on that front as well. The carbonation seems to settle down the right amount to give it more interest then a generic lager.

Final Thoughts: At first I didn't think this beer was going to fare too well, but it grew on me. Really this seems to be the measuring stick for Kolsch. Nothing bad, but nothing exceptional. If you haven't had Kolsch before, I'd recommend this one, but it's a bit lackluster for a more dedicated craft enthusiast.

DATE REVIEWED: August 30, 2014... GLASSWARE: Paulaner pokal... OCCASION: college football begins in earnest....with PSU’s last second win in Ireland!... APPEARANCE: pale, straw-colored body that actively bubbles; sudsy white head simmers but holds at a half-finger; spotty clouds of lacing... AROMA: soft, fruity esters ease the nostrils; some apple, pear and floral scents all suggest a lightly hopped brew.. PALATE: wondrously soft (!), reasonably effervescent mouthfeel; leaves a slightly palatable aftertaste of malt; mega-drinkable... TASTE: slight biscuit is earliest impression; next up, bubblegum and aromatic lilac or currants; biscuit becomes more prominent as the glass drains ...OVERALL: refreshment is the key word here,, as this kolsch slams like a fruity pilsner, with enough bitterness to suggest hopping and enough weight to suggest malt...a nice pairing with a late summer night and its sweltering humidity--a wonderful combination of drinkability and complexity...

On tap at the 2014 German Bierfest (Atlanta).
Clear light amber with a decent head.
Light body with a near medium carbonation.
Grassy hops with faint light malts. Lacks complexity and interest.
Lingering grassy hop aftertaste.
Hoppy for style yet uninteresting.

Undated bottle at 35 degrees into not quite standard Kolsch glass
Aroma – smells like a lager to me
Head average (4 cm), white, frothy, rapidly diminishing to irregular 2 mm layer
Lacing poor – few small islands of small bubbles
Body light yellow, chill haze
Flavor starts slightly sweet but immediately becomes tart; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate light, watery, soft carbonation

Appearance 2.75, Aroma 2.5, Flavor 2.75, Palate 3, Overall 2.75. Final weighted score: 2.725
This doesn’t really meet the criteria for a Kolsch – there is no dense lasting head, chill haze is present, hops are not noted in either the aroma or taste. If it was made here, it’d be called an “American Kolsch” and the criteria wouldn’t matter, but since it’s make in Koln, it should. Mediocre at best, possibly slightly skunked.

Bottle drank at Good Luck in Rochester, NY.

Pours a light orange/yellow, with a thin oily head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like grass/hay, green apple, and some unfortunately skunky aromas. I don't know how old this bottle is, but it probably isn't the freshest, unfortunately.

The hop flavor is unfortunately a bit muted, some tea and leaf-like hop flavors, some slight grassiness, and a honey-like malt flavor that seems indicative of age. It still does taste good, but I wish this was fresher, or on tap. Still quite crips with a nice bit, but it could be so much more.

Light bodied, very crisp and smooth mouthfeel, keeps it drinkable. Medium amount of carbonation.

Not a bad Kolsch, but probably not the best representation of how the brewer intended it to be.

03/25/15 Pretty much the same opinion including the chill factor. Colder is better.

05/13/13 On tap. Nice and crisp. A touch on the bitter side, but it works well. I'm a stickler for having Kölschs served icy cold and in smaller glasses to maintain their crispness. Otherwise I find myself in a race against the Elements and we all know how that will turn out. Looking for this to be a summer favorite.

I purchased this beer with higher expectations, possibly because it's "imported German beer brewed under the purity law of 1516", which is similar to the location/standard that Weihenstephaner originates from (although the latter is a completely different style).

A - Pale. Little/no head.

S - Can't really pick anything up. Very very bland....

T - Very bland... regular... NOT special, or flavorful. Aftertaste is bready if you wait about 30sec after a nice sip.

M - Smooth. Easy to drink. Nice for summer/spring weather if you just wanna cool down, or drink something other than water.

O - I can't take a complete dump on this beer simple because it's better than macro's, and it doesn't taste BAD like some failed micros. On the other hand, it has lots of room for improvement. It's not very flavorful, nor does it stand out in any way. A positive way to think about it would be in comparing it with plain ol' unsalted butter. It's got no taste, but when combined with something flavorful (like BBQ, steak, etc) it can go well without stealing from the flavorful components of the combination.

I won't be buying this again, simply because I've got too many other excellent options to spend my hard earned money on.

Lovers of bland tastelessness, look no further.
