A: Pours warm burgundy with a medium-large off-white head that sinks into decent lacings.

S: Rich malts; dark dried frutis. Molasses and some ripe fruits. A metallic off-smell.

T: Rich sweet syrupy-like malt. Loads of dark dried fruits. This is true to the style, without over-doing it.

M: Long sweet aftertaste. Full body and low carbonation.

O: A nice Doppelbock, even better considering I picked it up in a supermarket. Right now I hate myself for only buying this bottle...
Well, next spring I'll visit Germany again, and the same supermarket will get a visit and I'll pick up at least one case of this stuff.

This doppelbock produces two fingers of beautiful tan, rocky, and milky looking head, which lasts forever and makes great lacing that sticks awesomely to the glass.

The aroma is of sassafras, countered by metallic hops.

Taste wise this is a unique and great flavor. It actually tastes like a freaking pretzel in the bottle! It begins with a bready sweetness and finishes with a slight salty tanginess.

The mouthfeel actually feels medium at most, though I'd rather say thin. The 8.0% is masked so well, this brew will kick you in the groin if you're not careful.

Overall this is a very well done doppelbock. It doesn't have the typical overly malty profile, and is Über drinkable.

Other than the greatness of the beer, this company needs to ditch the cheesy drunk monk on the label... I'm just say'n.

Poured from a .5L bottle to a beer glass the liquid is dark caramel to burnt toffee, with good carbonation. The head is tall fades fast to a tan pad leaving little lace.

The smell is of chilled dried fruits, figs and dates.

The taste is even better, one of the best DBs I have had in quite a while. Flavors are mildly complex lots of dried fruits again add plum and sour cherry with a touch of espresso and alcohol. This brew is really quite nice and even better as it warms.

The mouthfeel is good lots of nice carbonation in a close to full body brew.

The drinkability is really good I really recommend this to all fans of the style.

Prosit und Zum Wohl. MK
