Clear amber beer with a large white head. Aroma is malty with notes of red berries, citrus, mango and caramel. Flavor is malty with notes of caramel, roasted malt, red berries and bread.

Hybrid English/US style. Lots of malt, but also a lot of quite bitter and resinous hops. Really quite a big bitter flavour. Lots of burnt toffee/caramel.

Format: standard 330mL solid brown bottle, standard Mountain Goat-esque craft label.

Appearance: a deep orange-copper body with light red highlights. Looks quite viscous, with small fine carbonation across the profile. A very thick one-finger beige head sits on top before slowly dropping to an extremely creamy and rocky half-finger. Looks fantastic.

Aroma: a pleasant aroma of pine and resin hops and some citrus fruits, grass and some floral, with a touch of malt behind.

Taste: again the pine and resin up front with a good dose of bitterness. Quite heavy for an IPA in that it has a strong earth and caramel malt flavour behind. Dulls the hops somewhat.

Aftertaste: the bitterness lingers with a lasting sweetness, but most importantly the hop flavour lingers, not just hop bitterness.

Mouth feel: a fairly heavy and viscous body with moderate carbonation. Possibly a bit too heavy, with too low a carbonation to bring those hops forward as much as possible. Still, very drinkable.

Overall: quite a nice English IPA, but funnily enough this one has a bit too much enphasis on the malts rather than the hops. A nicely complex beer and great on the nose, but to taste it is almost a bit too malt-heavy. Still, a really good-quality and easy-drinking English IPA. AU$85 a case.

Cloudy caramel body with no almost no head

Smell of sweet caramel that is followed by hops and floral scent. Added hint of citrus.

Taste of sweet caramel followed by bitter hops that is nicely balanced. Bitter aftertaste

Overall. Well balanced beer that is easy going. Fantastic beer.

Very nice IPA - although found it more of an American style IPA than an English IPA

aroma: malt, citrus, spice and caramel

Taste: strong grapefruit presence (especially at start) followed by pine with pepper and spice, along with slight citrus and caramel to support it. A nice clean hop taste with a good back-end kick.

A very good IPA by an Australian brewery which isn't too far behind ferals hop hog - very enjoyable to drink

A: Super clear copper colour. Long lasting dense fluffy head. Tons of lacing.
S: No real hop aroma. A little bit of sweet malt.
T: Balance of malt and bitterness. Not to much hop flavour. Toffee and a tiny bit of pine. Clean bitterness.
M: Nice crisp finish.
O: Nothing overly complex but still a nice beer.

A: Pours a dark bronze color with a good head that fades slowly to nice lacing.

S: Aroma of citrus, roasted malt and carmel.

T: Taste is a bit of grapefruit with a caramel and some roasted malt. Nice bitterness and a dry finish.

F: Medium body, crisp and smooth, nicely balanced.

O:An enjoyable beer. Nice take on the style, a bit more malt than expected but still worth checking out.

The latest in Mountain Goat's permanent line of brews, Mountain Goat India Pale Ale, is a different breed to their previous IPA incarnation asserting itself as a hoppier more IPAish IPA (if that makes sense). As the other standard Mountain Goat beers are already in a craft sweet spot it will be interesting to see how they approach one of the most popular craft beer styles around.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a nonic pint.

A: Presents itself with a nice clear copper body and a cappuccino froth white 0.5cm head.

S: Stonefruit Galaxy hops on right on the nose with a decent sweet caramel malt base centre. There is a grapefruit citrus tang but the most evident part of the aroma is the battle between the stonefruit hops and caramel base.

T: The flavour has a real tight balance between that sweet caramel malt base and the stonefruit/grapefruit hops that finishes with an above average bitterness. We would have another winner from Mountain Goat however it does seem to be lacking a flavour, perhaps some sour yeast would really have mixed/livened things up.

M: Medium bodied with light carbonation and some sticky characteristics.

D: It's goood, however as mentioned above the flavour feels like it is lacking one small thing. Which can be irritating because the potential for more flavour is enticing due to the hops and malt being balanced so well in this brew. Other than that it is only sold in a 4-pack at a 6-pack price and there is little more to motive one to purchase it again unless it is on tap.

Food match: Thai food is a decent match for an IPA of this bitterness, fresh Asian salads, Vietnamese too, pretty much any SE Asian country would have food with a sharp enough flavour profile to suit this brew.

A- Pours a deep orange to amber colour, off white head with minimal retention, possibly due to the fact the the glass had a little bit of residue from washing it. Soapy-like lacing that lingers.

S- Fruity, nice amount of malt coming through as well. Slight pine and grassy notes as well.

T- Grapefruit and tropical fruits straight up, bitter hops and the malt is nicely balanced, the citrus flavours seem to become more pronounced as the beer warms, quite impressed.

M- Not as carbonated as I expected, which is good. Low-medium body, almost creamy towards the end.

O- Pretty damn good for an Aussie take on an IPA, goes down smoothly and is refreshing, goes well with the summer weather.

Pours dark amber with a fading white head.
Nose shows hefty crystal malt along with massive tangerine and toasty characters.
More tangerine and caramel as flavours. A fairly assertive bitterness in the finish but the malt wins out.
Body feels syrupy.
