Big thank you to Jeffo for a box of awesome goodies including this very interesting looking paper-wrapped bottle. Cheers bud!

Appearance. Pours a rich yellow gold that's topped with close to a finger of frothy white head.

Smell. Orchard fruits and oaky (or is it oakey, either way probably not a real word because spellcheck's all complainey) white wine. A slight touch of crackery wheat in there too.

Taste. Definite vinous notes and a ton of oak ... woody bitterness, vanilla, toasty oak. Nice citrus breaks things up in an almost tangy way, and there's a bit of floral, grassiness that's got to be from the hops.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, low carbonation.

Overall. An interesting wheatwine that's lacking a lot of the sweetness many others have. Interesting stuff, can't say I've had anything like it. Extra points for originality!

Bottle: Poured a clear medium golden color ale with a relatively small foamy head with minimal retention and not much lacing. Aroma of sweet wheat malt notes with some residual sugars notes also perceptible. Taste is also dominated by caramelized wheat malt notes with a little bit of residual sugar notes and light boozy notes. I can’t say that the white wine barrel were detectable. Body was full for style with good carbonation and a little bit boozy. Overpriced for sure with barrel-aging notes hardly detectable; I will probably skip out next time I see this on the shelves.

Orange amber colour. Very slight haziness. Half inch of head that quickly became a slick. Tiny slow carbonation bubbles. Fine lacing.

I can smell mainly alcholol and chardonnay along with some spiceness.

Sweet caramel taste at the start that fades to spiciness of cinnamom along with grainy wheat and oak from the bareels. Ends with a very grassy, tart, sour apple aftertaste.

Full slightly oily feel with warmth.

Overall a bit disappointed. The wheat is lost in the alcohol and grassy hops.

A: Firstly, it was a gusher unlike I have EVER experienced before in a beer. Honey amber, moderate cloudiness much like a hefeweizen, medium low slow rising carbonation, 4 fingers of slightly yellow tinged white head that leaves a chunky sugar like lacing.

S: Pineapple, funky, Bier Brut like, a sort of sharp blue cheese like air hits the nose like some Belgians and Deus, sour lambic like quality as well, raw macaroni, an almost lactic quality, apricots, peach, lemon juice and lemon rind.

T: A light sweetness with lemonade, lemon peel, the Belgian yeasts, the blue cheese like bite comes in, funky but little sourness. Light bitter hopping near the end like lemon rind. Oak, woody quality as well.

M: Medium smooth, chewy, bready body, little carbonation left after the gusher. Finish is like the rind of a lemon.

O: This one is reminding me of a Bier Brut, in many ways like Deus. Champagne like, slightly funky and aged, lots of carbonation and light. Fantastic brew!

Appearance: It has a nice hazy golden/orange color to it. It has a nice off-white head that dies down somewhat fast and leaves nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of wheat, white wine, oak, citrus/lemon and some light floral hops.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some wheat, white wine, some woody oak, lemon zest, some floral notes and a faint grassy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by good flavors and aromas.

Wheat wine in chardonnay barrels

APPEARANCE: Pours a small, medium looking, bubbly but creamy white head with good retention. Amber orange in color with medium levels of carbonation. Head fades to a bubbly wisp and clings to the sides of the glass. A swirly wisp remains until the end and leaves traces of lacing as the glass empties.

SMELL: Heavy chardonnay barrels, oak, grapes and white wine aromas. Light melon aromas under the wine. Could be bolder, but this is alright.

TASTE: Melon sweetness and oak up front, with white wine at the swallow. Medium but lingering finish of oak, green grapes, white wine and a bit of alcohol as well. Some faint tartness is left behind long into the finish as well. This is nicely balanced and the chardonnay barrels provide some nice wine and slightly tart character to this one. Good.

PALATE: Fuller body and lower levels of carbonation. Creamy and slick on the palate, enough weight as well, goes down fine and finishes slightly mouth-coating. Good, silky feel here.

OVERALL: Quality stuff here. This one is much more interesting and delicately done than their Gilgamesh, and the feel is better executed for the style as well. The chardonnay worked well with the base wheat wine and lent some nice oak, wine and slightly tart notes to the brew as well. A worthy release and one worth checking out if you get the chance. Thanks again guys!

Opened this with fairly high expectations. From notes.

A - Golden and bright pour with mild carbonation. One finger of white head left minimal spotty lace and a mild film of retention.

S - Grainy, lemon, honey.

T - Rich honey, sweet grain, an odd note I'm assuming is the chardonnay wood. A weird harshness.

M - Good carbonation, medium body, sweet grainy finish.

O/D - This left me a bit confused and underwhelmed. Barrel didn't seem too strong and the base wasn't overly interesting. Another hyped up brew from Beau's that really didn't deliver.

Pours a slightly hazy light copper. Interestingly I got almost zero head on the pour but there is quite a decent amount of lacing being left behind as drunk. Aromas of sweet caramel malts, some molasses, and maybe a hint of white wine. Tastes are in the area of red fruit peels, and caramel. Fairly sweet. I get no hop balance to any of this at all. Overall, one of Beau’s more hoity toity offerings, but I’m glad I tried one, as it is worth a try.
