Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of ginger with light caramel malt notes is interesting. Taste is mostly dominated by spicy ginger notes offset by lightly sweet caramel malt notes. The rum barrel-aging notes are very hard to detect and you have to wonder if the beer spent enough time in the barrel. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nice ginger touch for this beer but not worth the price tag.

Big pop when it was openned. Beautiful hazy golden amber colour. Two inches of yellowish beige head of big bubbles. Lots of fast streams of carbonation. Great lacing and retention. The head was the last things left in the glass.

Aroma of sweetness and ginger. Like a ginger candy.

A tart taste is dominated by the ginger. The edge has been take off by the aging. Taste of rum and oak barrels in the middle. Ginger and bitterness in the aftertaste.

Lots of carbonation at the front of the mouth. Full mouthfeel.

Very good tart ginger beer. I had this back to back with Ginga Ninja which allowed me to appreciate the barrel aging. This one is richer and more refined. The big negative was the price.

600ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $10

Appearance - Amber colour with an average size frothy beige head. I can't make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 4-5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, grains, ginger, all spice

Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, grains, and ginger. There is also some lemony citrus flavour and some peppery/floral notes.

Overall - I'd never guess this was barrel aged.. wondering what the original beer tasted like and if there was any changes after aging. Not worth 10$.
