Bottle - puts a clouded cola colored unfiltered brew in the glass with 1 finger mocha tan cap. Aromas of roasted cashews, bread and coca - becomes more pungent as it warms. Medium bodies with a firm malt spine and malty-toasty-roasty character. Flavor profile starts with a massive chew on big malts; cocoa tones, burnt toast, some licorice with a light herbal bitterness - long wet finish as the bittering comes forward and balances the toasted bread tastes. A very flavorful and satisfying dark lager - Dunkels are my favorite style and this is a really good one - wish it was more cost effective, I'd buy more.

600 mL bottle from the LCBO; filled Dec 22 2017 and served slightly chilled. I generally prefer the Munich helles style over dunkels, but we'll see how it goes.

This dunkel is a deep, clear chestnut-brown colour, with one finger of light beige-tinted head initially rising to the surface. It holds together for three minutes, max; in its wake, a fine coat of lacing has been applied to the interior of the glass, located just above a frothy collar of bubbly foam. The aroma is fairly basic yet highly approachable, with notes of cocoa and milk chocolate overlapping with toasted bread, nuts and caramelized malt. Not much of a hop presence, save for some earthy, herbal qualities. Not bad; I often find dunkels to have an aroma that is either bland or annoyingly sweet, but this one doesn't bug me at all.

Malt-forward, but I guess that's what you'd expect of a dunkel lager. It's particularly malty-sweet on the front end, with toasted bread and nuts coming through alongside some toffee and cocoa powder. Hints of earthy, grassy, vaguely spicy continental hops serve to spruce up the tail end of the sip, helping to balance out the dark malts. Still, it remains mildly sweet at the finish, followed by a clean aftertaste that is somewhat drier than I'd expected. Decidedly medium in body, with moderately low carbonation levels that provide only a timid bite; feels quite smooth and soft on the surface of palate. An easy-drinking, properly made dark lager that doesn't move the needle too far in either direction.

Final Grade: 3.74, a solid B grade. I've had a fair number of these Beau's Farm Table beers, and if nothing else they're quite consistent in terms of quality - I haven't had any genuine stinkers, though I suppose there haven't been any hidden gems, either. These tend to be basic, quaffable brews that follow the blueprints of their respective style to the letter, and the Dunkel is nothing different. I am not partial to this style, so I don't think I'd pay $5 for another bottle - but I'd still recommend this to fans of malty, Euro-style dark lagers without hesitation.

600ml bottle - nice German castle imagery on the label.

This beer pours a clear, dark orange-brick brown colour, with four fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some nicely gnarled tree branch lace around the glass as things quickly sink away.

It smells of gritty and grainy caramel malt, a sort of meaty char, toasted brown bread, a muddled black orchard fruitiness, subtle cocoa powder notes, ephemeral cafe-au-lait, and some plain earthy, leafy, and musty noble hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, wet wheat crackers, some bruised apple, pear, and plum fruity esters, a free-range ashiness, faint chocolate and vanilla, and more understated herbal, weedy, and floral green hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-propping frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess trying to pry its way in. It finishes off-dry, the roasted malt and meek herbal hops lingering on until washed away by the next gulp.

Overall, this is a well-made version of the style, nice and toasty, with a down-low fruity character. Easy to drink, if this is your sort of thing, and worthy of comparison to most of the Old World examples that we have available around here, methinks.

600ml bottle poured into tulip 27/2/17

A looks like cola in the glass but has a nice maroon glow when held to the light, massive light brown foam has great retention but only manages a few random patches

s dry cereal, cocoa powder, banana chips, leafy hops, vanilla, earthy notes almost has a top soil thing going on

T much like the nose, some caramel, malts a little darker in the mouth, some hard to place fruit

M lighter side of medium, stays on the creamy side of foam, very slick in the mouth

O agreeable enough version of the style, hits all the major points without really excelling anywhere

Another decent beer that's nothing to be ashamed of but nothing really memorable

Serving: Bottle
Bottled: Nov-20-2017

PoursĀ a clear ruby-brown with a couple fingers of airy tan head that ends up a sloppy ring. Not much retention; droopy lacing. (3.75)

Warm, sweet dark bread, some pepper, brown sugar. (3.75)

Follows the nose. Bready, grainy, nutty malt layers with the tiniest bite. (3.75)

Lightish body with active carbonation and a quick finish. (3.75)

Good beer.
It pours pretty dark, ruby-brown with a niceish head. The aroma and smell are both of sweet dark bread with a little peppery bite balancing it out. Drinkable and nice. Nothing spectacular, but good. (3.75)

600 ml bottle, served cold into a tulip. LCBO purchase for $4.95 CDN. Batch 6707 and bottled October 26, 2017.

Appearance - Pours a dark cola brown with a two finger light tan colored head. Good retention and loads of lacing.

Smell - Lots of grain here with some grassy notes hidden and the obvious caramel note too.

Taste - Clean and fairly grainy with a little less flavor and a touch of a metallic taste. Low-medium levels of bitterness through finishes with a little more than it started with.

Mouthfeel -Smooth, medium bodied with good expressive carbonation.

Overall - A fine Munich Dunkel from Beau's that is solid but if this weren't such a hard style to find (other than Side Launch), I'd probably choose other options rather than this one.

600ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.

Pours a deep red-brown with one fat finger of fluffy tan head that leaves tangled river delta lace as it recedes.

Smells of dark, honeyed bread crust, banana slices, dried vanilla muddled orchard fruit, faint wood smoke and mild creamy coffee.

Tastes of singed caramel, banana and apple, more mild coffee with cream and vanilla, and a pleasant herbal hoppiness.

Feels soft and smooth. Medium bodied with fluffy carbonation. Finishes off-dry.

Verdict: Highly recommended. A nice mild beer for nice mild weather.

The look is great. This dunkel is dark blackish red, with a large light head without much retention.

It tastes tangey, but is thick, creamy, and full bodied in texture. It has notes of wood, burnt sugar, pepper, bread, and caremel, and had a light bitterness without any other hop characteristics except possibly the pepperyness.
