I went to the brewery the day this was released... That ended up being the best Beau's beer I have ever had... I wish they would keep this around all year.

Purchased as part of a Best of Beau's 4pk for $24.00. 600ml bottle served at 4deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a nice high brown head that films out in a minute or two. Very dark brown, nearly black.

S- Nice chocolate and malt here. Quite a bit of heat.

T- Lots of chocolate and vanilla. Malt galore. Super nice blend.

M- Dry and light. A good porter.

O- Very enjoyable beer. Will buy again and if I see on tap

Food Pairing

This very good porter went well with...... BBQ lamb. This beer actually cut through the heavy meat flavor.

Bottle: Poured a dark color porter with a medium size light brown foamy head with medium retention and light lacing. Aroma of vanilla is quite important with some dry roasted malt notes. Taste is a good mix between some light dry roasted malt notes with some vanilla notes that are quite intense. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation. Interesting but nothing extremely special at the end of the day.

On tap @ C'est What?
Served in pint glass.

A - Poured black with a thin layer of light brown head.

S - Sweet vanilla dominates the nose. Almost too sweet. Lighter roast and chocolate notes.

T - Fairly sweet overall with a huge vanilla presence, as would be expected. Some lighter roast, chocolate and char in the background.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation.

O - This was pretty good despite being a touch too sweet.

600 ml bottle from Best of Beau's 4-pack. 4.9% ABV Vanilla Porter.

Dark brown with a small bright red highlight. One inch medium brown, bubbly head that quickly became a slick and ring. The lacing is just a dotted line.

A very mild aroma of sweet vanilla.

The taste is likewise mild. Roasted malt. Mild vanilla. Actually tastes like cardboard. There is just a hint of grassy hops.

A medium feel with slight tingle. As the feel of a soda pop.

In the game of curling, a burnt rock is a rock that has been illegally touched by a player. A burnt rock is removed from the ice. So the name is sadly appropriate. It is drinkable but far too mild.

Appearance: It has a nice dark brown (almost black) color to it. It has a nice mocha head that dies down moderately and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of vanilla, roasted malts and light chocolate/coffee.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has sweet vanilla and chocolate upfront with some light coffee and roasted malts.

Mouthfeel: It has a med/high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

600 mL bottle pulled from their recent sampler, picked up at the LCBO; dated Nov. 19 2013. It took a while, but Beau's has finally made it to Sarnia, and I couldn't be more pleased with that fact. Served slightly chilled.

Pours an opaque brownish-black colour, with over an inch of creamy, dense foam quickly erupting from the surface. It has great retention, managing to stick around for more than a few minutes and leaving a fine coat of lacing behind as it seeps away. Mild aroma with roasted malts, vanilla, mocha and a hint of chocolate. Nothing wrong with that at all, but it's still kind of weak in intensity.

Very tasty stuff, with just enough roasted malt and chocolate flavour to counter the sizeable dose of vanilla beans. There are also a few suggestions of some sort of dark fruit, perhaps dates, that become more noticeable as it warms. The roasted, charry features begin to overpower the vanilla toward the finish, with some earthy hops joining in to dry out the palate. On the lighter side of medium-bodied, with a very nice, smooth mouthfeel accentuated by the moderate levels of carbonation that provide a nice contrast. This is an extraordinarily quaffable stout, due to its light nature and reasonably balanced flavour.

Final Grade: 3.88, a B+. Burnt Rock Vanilla Porter is a great, light, sessionable dark ale that I would likely purchase regularly if it were available locally (in a more affordable format). It's not complex or intense in any way - just a straightforward, well-balanced porter with just the right amount of vanilla. Vastly superior to the nitrogenized Mill Street take on this sub-style in my opinion, and a worthy inclusion in this year's Best of Beau's sampler pack.

600 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. Part of the Beau's taster's pack received as a Christmas gift.

Appearance - Dark brown in color with nearly 3 fingers of head with good retention time. The head looks rather frothy as well. Lots of active bubbles in the beer from what I can see, it's not transparent but not totally hazy either.

Smell - Vanilla, burnt malt and some burnt sugar as well. More smokey caramel aroma from the bottle than from the glass. Actually the aroma from the bottle is magnificent but doesn't completely translate subsequent to the pour. Also a little bit of a vanilla coffee aroma mixture.

Taste - Vanilla and caramel mostly, with the burnt malt characteristics coming through on the palate towards the back end of every sip. Good general roastiness too.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, fairly full feel, with medium carbonation. At the same time as I swirled this around my mouth there was a watery thinness that can be expected given lower ABV.

Overall - Nice roasty characteristics and enticing aroma make this an enjoyable sipper. If I'm looking for a vanilla porter, this is one I'd strongly consider.

Part 3 of the 4 bottles in the "Best of Beau's" pack.

A- Pitch black in the glass, burnt auburn around the edges when held to the light. Two finger, tight bubbled tan head quickly recedes to a thin cap. Lacing is minimal.

S- Coffee, burnt caramel and some vanilla. There is some bittersweet chocolate and some sugar in the raw. Has a oat aroma in the back end.

T- Burnt coffee, some dark chocolate. Very light on the vanilla. I'm a vanilla nut and this was a little lack luster in the vanilla department. Base beer is quite good though.

M- Light body, high carbonation.
