This is a nice traditional pub in central Newcastle. Nice decor in side, properly with lots of pictures of the Iron Duke and some of Napoleon. Staff was friendly. Cask beer selection was small and sadly included nothing special from the local region but what they had was good quality and in excellent condition: Wadworth 6X Bitter and Timothy Taylor Landlord were the ones we had.

Hiding in a narrow street off Newcastle's infamous Bigg Market is the Duke of Wellington.
This is a small pub run by real ale enthusiasts for many years. It offers around 6 to 8 cask ales, all served in excellent condition. The range varies, but whenever I have been in, it has offered at least one from the local Big Lamp brewery, and the remainder from other Northern English or Scottish regional brews, with the occasional Southern beer thrown in for good measure. The range usually includes one or two of the harder to find styles too, such as mild and real stout.
The feel of the place (to me) is of a heavy rock/metal crowd, but I don't know why... whenever I have been in the music has been gentle, and the clientele generally of the more mature variety.
I didn't ask about food, but I'm pretty sure it's not served at all.
A great place if you're out and about in Newcastle and want to slip off for a decent beer before returning to the madness that is the Bigg Market.
