Review from notes:
This was the second beer in the sampler lineup. Quite hoppy for number 2 and esp for a brewpub chain. I really liked it. The body was thicker than average and slightly creamy. Good dose of caramel malts and a German hefe influence in the middle. Hops are piney and bitter. Very crisp and slightly dry finish. I had this one a few times, definitely a beer I could drink a solid amount of, maybe even session all night with.

Very pretty true gold color with slightly red tinged hues. Small but noticeable amount of cascade or similar hops. Quite nice. Very mellow and sessionable. Front is caramel malts. Finish is slightly citrusy, mainly grapefruit and becomes subtly bitter. Mild but very nice.

Surprisingly hoppy for a “starter” beer, sure to surprise a newbie. It’s now described on the Rock Bottom sampler mat as an American Pale Ale, and so it is. Not fruity like a Sierra Nevada, but good sharp bite of Northwesrtn hops. Typical Pale Ale brown color and thin heads.

Chicago Gold, listed as an American pale ale. Pours a deep gold, with nice clarity. The head was a little tin, and pure white, but left great lacing. The aroma and taste were full of hoppy goodness, with a robust little kick. Interesting mouthfeel, as the hops left an almost drying/sour sensation, with some slick hop oil residue to boot. Not at all unpleasant, in fact my last note states “I want more.” Very nice

I had this one at the Chicago outpost. It seemed to be the most popular offering.

True to its name, it does pour a nice gold with decent lacing and head.

Smell is fresh with a nice hop nose. I also got a little bit of fruit aroma.

Taste is fairly simple. Nice understated hops in the forefront. Malt moderates and adds a little smoothness. Just a whisper of underlying citrus taste sneaks in. While not over challenging, this is a easy drinking beer that is very easy to pair with food.

Good training wheel type beer.

Again, not giving much credit when ordering, I was surprised at how well I liked this brew. Very clean Ale flavors with a moderate base malt sweetness and body with lemony and a touch of orange peel evident in the aroma and flavor. Saved by a solid dosing of hops which contribute a spicy citrus bitter and flavor without clouding the brew. Remaining crisp and clean throughout. Nice beer.

my first of the style. i was initially suspicious of the brew's description as a "pale ale." pale golden with some sticky foam that didn't hang out long. the aroma was a little weak: slight sweetness and floral hop aroma, but otherwise very innocuous

the menu claimed this brew to have munich in the grist but i didn't pick up on it. very light and dry with minimal bitterness

dumbed down. however the menu did also claim "generous portions" of PNW hops: yeah yeah

Pours a light golden yellow. Smell and taste are both pretty thin with grassy bittering hops and mild, lackluster malt character. I thought this was less flavorful than their Line Drive Light beer, but it did have a bit of hop bite to it. Eh... Wouldn't recommend, but would rather go for another offering of theirs

on tap at the brewpub in Chicago. pours a yellowish amber with a half finger of white head with no lacings and decent retention.

aroma is of pale malts with a subtle breadyness note, with little else.

taste is lightly spicy with notes of hops alongside a bready profile. a base of stale grain ruins the subtle hop notes.

mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a stale finish of bready malt.

drinkability is sub-par. the stale grain ruins any balance or pleasant note from the brew. not recommended.

Sampled at the AHA Banquet at the Rock Bottom Chicago.

Beer pours hazy amber with a loose bubble head.

Aroma is dense and piney and a touch of woodiness lending an impression of pine cones. Finish has a slightly sour malt aroma with a scent of dry lemons.

The initial flavor is toasted caramel and bready, but the malt quickly drops to a drying grapefruit hop flavor and bitterness.

On tap at RB...This pours a super dark gold straw but its still very clear...The head is totally dead, nothing at all there...The taste is also super light, can't taste anything but light skunk. Its not bad per se just boring, why drink this?

Overall, an easy session beer but nothing special.
