First had: on tap at Rock Bottom, King of Prussia, PA

Poured into a Mug Club mug, a pitch black color with a solid cap of nitro-looking tan head. Roasty aroma, not too overbearing, with hints of chocolate. Roasted malts in the taste, nutty, with a touch of cocoa, infused with caramel and just a touch of mild hop earthiness. Not overly flavorful, but generally nice and smooth. A bit on the thin side for a stout, but still fairly drinkable overall.

Pours a near black color with disapointing lack of head. Smell is of dark roasted grains with hints of nuts, chocolate and coffee. Taste kicks scent up a notch with rich dark roasted grains, nuts and decent chocolate and coffee bean notes. Suprisingly active hop presence behind the roasty goodness. Medium bodied, carbonation at a minimumm, semi-dry. Good stout, on eof the better Irish Dry
s i have had, leans closer to Enlish Porter though, in my opinion.

Drank on 3/29 at the bar; review from notes:

Born On Date - 3/26/09 (listed above bar)

Poured a dark brown/black with the slightest bit of light peaking through. The aroma reminded me of a nut brown with slight coffee notes and a hint of chocolate. Flavor is dry and tasty at first, but had a suspicious rubbery aftertaste. Carbonation tickled the tongue (maybe a bit more than necessary) and it went down smoothly, despite its disappointing finale. Could turn out to be a decent dry stout with a bit of fine tuning.

On nitro-tap at Rock Bottom KOP on 1/23/09. Served in a mug club mug.

A - Poured a very dark toasted brown body with one finger of milky light tan head that retained quite well and left a coat of thick lace around the glass.

S - Dark roasted malt with chocolate, caramel and subtle coffee notes. Hops are mild with herbal, leafy and earthy characteristics.

T - Opens with chocolate and coffee notes up front paired with a bit of sweet caramel. Finishes with a hefty dose of dark roasted malt flavor and quite a bit of earthy hop bitterness.

M - Medium bodied stout with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation from the nitro pour. Finish is quite dry and bitter.

D - Another soild, well-crafted brew from Rock Bottom that is true to style. I have been consistently impressed with the offerings from the KOP brewpub, and I look forward to each visit. They always have one or two good seasonals on tap.

Very dark with ruby/mahogany highlights. It had a thick, rich, dark tan cap that left a solid sheet of bubbles clinging to the glass all the way down to the last drop. Superb head retention. The aroma was burnt and roast initially, then mellowed into malted milk and dark chocolate with a bit of coffee. The flavour was heavy of chocolate, both milk and dark, very malty with a dry roast character. Hop bitterness was solid, but stayed light, and there were faint hop notes in the finish. Some lactose sweetness with lingering malt. Medium to light bodied, very low carbonation, very smooth with a creamy texture. Highly drinkable and easy on the palate. I was planning on trying something else as a second pint, but ended up ordering another one of these instead.

A: Very dark brown with a light brown creamy nitro head that leaves plenty of clinging lace.

S: Cream and roasted malts dominate.

T: Roasty, espresso and dark chocolate notes with some cream in the background.

M: Medium body but the nitro makes it feel watery but it is still very smooth.

D: More flavor than the originals that we get over here in America. Nice beer to have a few of at the bar.

Served via nitro-tap at the brewpub in an oversized "Mug Club" mug on 10/25/08.

Pours black (some garnet comes out along the bottom) with 1 1/2 fingers of extremely creamy off-white head. This doesn't shrink down much at all, just absolutley coating the sides of the glass as you drink. The aroma is moderately assertive with notes of chocolate sweetness and a touch of coffee that is enveloped in an overall toasty feel.

The taste is quite roasty with some chewy notes of chocolate and caramel sweetness. Finishes well with a nice, lingering dry roasted feel on the palette. The mouthfeel is surprisingly full for a sub 5% beer with a smooth and creamy nature from the nitro-pour that spreads out well and moves easily.

I really enjoyed this. Some good dry roasted flavors and an easy going, creamy body made this extremely drinkable for me. A good sessionable offering.

I drank this brew at, you guessed it Rock Bottom, from a pint glass.
Appearance: A tan head that was two or so fingers high, great retention, thick and abundant lacing and a dark brown (not quite black) body.
Smell: None at all, I could strech and say I got a sense of generic malt, but not enough for me to note.
Taste: Very strong roasted taste, nuts, bit of caramile (sp).
Mouthfeel: Smooth and thick but not a thick as Guiness.
Drinkability: Good, but not great, I would have liked more character in the nose.
Don't drink and review.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black body with a nice, frothy head with good retention throughout the whole beer. There was not much of a smell that was noticeable at all. The taste was different. A nice roasted taste with chocolate undertones and a chocolate aftertaste. The mouthfeel was pretty good and full-bodied, but I felt it could have been thicker for a stout. Overall, a really drinkable beer. Tastes really good and its slightly thin mouthfeel means it will not fill you up as fast. Highly recommended.

Poured on a hazy Memorial Day...and
Appeared - deep black with a chocolaely head and lacing that continued throughout, as any nitro stout should.

Smelled - as if they were only calling it a dry stout, but were playing around with chocolate covered espresso beans near the tanks. I was enticed.

Tasted - quite good, while it is hard to impress me with a non-specialty stout, this seemed a bit more than a plain, Irish Dry (read:Guiness). So, I was very happy about that.

Mouthfeel - was on style, but it is especially always fun to poke througha creamy head like that. that has got to be taken as part of the mouthfeel experience, IMO.

Drinkability - is likely long, even though I only had one. If you like Dry Stouts, this is certainky better than any of the Irish macro dries.

I was happy to find the Dublin Dragon on tap again this holiday season as I always need a respite from shopping, and it's flavorful and filling but not overly alcoholic, and just the bit I need to get me going again. Luckily for me, I was able to find it on cask this time around (or at least served via handpump with a CO2 blanket)!

Dark, almost black. Creamy tan head. Gently roasty aroma. Supple mouthfeel. The flavor follows suit with some mildly sweet malt, yeasty fruit (soft berries), and a stiff bitterness. It finishes dry with a flicker of leafy hops and a drizzle of yeasty fruitiness that lingers for a moment until the bitterness and roastiness rise to dry it.

Appears a dark black with a lush ivory head that sticks around. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smells are of deep roasted malts. Perhaps a touch of pumpkin, or pumpkin spices are swirling around in there as well.
Taste is also of the rich, roasted dark malt brew with some of the pumpkin-like squash taste going on. A little bit of hops kicking in.
Mouthfeel is slightly bitter, with lots of roastiness carrying along the palate before cutting out semi-dry. Creamy, smooth, and roasty.
