Pint at the La Jolla location on 12/12/08, reviewed from notes, everybody there seemed to be drinking this one but I cannot see what all the fuss is about, color was a light amber, 3/4 inch soapy white head with decent retention, limited amount of lacing, smell was made up of mostly malt, light hops in the background, hint of spice, grassy accents, and lemon, all aromas were light, taste was rather weak as well with some hops at first, cereal and bready malt in the middle, mellow bitterness in the finish, the soft citrus in the background is more tangy and sweet than anything, does not go with the hop profile well, light body, overly carbonated, taste did not last long, could drink a lot of this because it is light on the stomach and not high in alcohol, it is watered down though, which makes it drinkable but also makes it suffer in other categories, might be worth trying

Notes from a couple months ago. Didn't want to add the beer without checking the ABV at the source. Haven't made it back but now see someone else has....

Pours a slightly hazy orange golden color into a pint glass with a nice half inch of head. Head doesn't offer much retention but does yield some light lacing throughout.

Quite hoppy on the nose, with distinctive citrus notes. Light malts are also evident through a decent carbonation. Not a lot of variety but what's there is fairly good.

Taste is slightly sweet of citrus oil coated malt flavors with a decent lingering aftertaste and a mildly bitter close. Medium/Light in body with a well balanced carbonation and moderate ABV, yielding a quaffable brew.

Interestingly I find this to be somewhat richer in body than their IPA and having a nicer hop nose.

Edit: Sampled again on March 9, 2009. This is a markedly different beer. Color is lighter, perhaps a deep golden, and quite clear. Nose is lighter, thinner and void of the hops of my prior experience. Taste is likewise and the beer is notably lighter in body with less malt structure. Rather thin overall. Feel is also diminished as the carbonation is excessive for the style. On top of that I understand growler fills have increased from $8 to $10 for standard house beers??? Clear auburn pour with a one-finger white head. Nice lacing. Crisp caramel malt nose. Some citrus hops blended with a grassy, earthy aroma. Pleasant crystal-and-caramel malt backbone. The hops are more peppery in the taste, but there is still a nice citrus quality. A bit grainy at times, which was unusual. Dry finish.
