On-Tap at RB Orland Park

A: Pours a translucent light straw color with a decent white head that retained. Remaining head laced nicely throughout. Carbonation bubbles racing to the top. Nice looking lager.

S: Real clean smell with some sweetness. Earthy grass mixed with sweet malt.

T: Once again real clean. Earthy hops came through first followed by some of the sweetness from the malts. Could sense a slight taste of citrus.

M: Real light body with good mouth coating and flow.

D: Real easy lager to drink. In a world surrounded by mediocre lagers, this one stands out.

I had this one on tap at the Orland park RB yesterday. Brewer Iain Wilson has changed the formula on his "light" beers recently. What was formerly known as "Line Drive Light" is now known as "Orland Park Light" and is an American light lager brewed with adjunct rice. This beer I am reviewing is a new recipe of Iain's and is a true Helles.

A= This beer poured a very clear pale straw yellow color with a 1/2" white head. The head dropped to a thin cap and maintained pretty well. Lots of active carbonation release and a huge amount of lace stickage down the glass.

S= Aroma was of course pretty clean, but did throw out a nice blend of malty sweetness, grain, sulfur, and some soft grassy notes. Also the faintest hint of lemon too.

T= Grainy malt sweetness started things off, followed by a nice pop of fresh grassy hops, and an appropriate sulfur twang. The finish was clean and dry and made me want another sip.

MF= Light body with a fine crisp carbonation and great palate cleansing abilities.

D= Outstanding helles lager here. Very well made and hugely drinkable. Would be great as a summertime session beer or to wash down a meal.
