Perfectly pristine russet red with cantaloupe colored edges and a chubby one finger disk of golden beige foam that looked nice and sticky. In the end, a generous amount of spider web mousse was seen clinging to the glass.

This offering is described as a Danish Farm Ale and contains rye, oats, juniper berries and 'a touch of beechwood-smoked malt'. The nose was impressively fruity and slightly toasted-earthy. Based strictly on color and aroma, American red ale would've been my guess if I had been blinded.

Danskgardol was a subtly complex ale that changed for the better from the beginning of each mouthful to the end, and from the first sip to the last. It also complemented my club sandwich and malt kettle chips lunch exceptionally well (what little was left of the pint).

The rye added a mild earthiness, the juniper berries made their move in the second half of each mouthful, and the smoke was extremely subtle. Other flavors included caramel, tea leaves and orange peel, although it's unlikely that fruit zest was added. Both sweet and bitter were well represented, which always makes for more drinkable beer.

The mouthfeel was incredibly creamy soft, with impressively well-buried bubbles. This brew was almost midway between on-tap and on-cask in terms of carbonation feel.

Dansk means 'Danish', but that's as close as I can get to a proper translation. I probably sound like a broken record sometimes (scratched CD?), but Danskgardol is yet another interesting and delicious ale from the West Des Moines Rock Bottom... even if it isn't easily pronounceable for the non-Danes among us.

This was definitely a nice one to try especially since this style isn't a commonly found in the area. The brew itself is a deep ruby red with 1.5 fingers of foam. The aroma is kinda malty with some citrus and what I would call an earthy pine, possible the juniper/rye mix. The taste was interesting, malty and somewhat fruity but kinda robust. Body is light-medium. I haven't had this style before so it's a bit difficult to describe. It's exceptionally smooth, that much is clear. Tasty, very much so. I'll try this one again.
