Drank at the bar on 9-10-11. Reviewed from notes. Chalkboard calls it a "A West Coast Style Big IPA" with a birthdate of 8-16-11.

Color is a grainy amber with lacing that sticks and coats the rim of the glass. Light carbonation makes for a clean, light DIPA.

Hop aroma is sweet with only a slight bitterness. Aroma is light, but some caramel and fruit are evident in the nose.

Citrus flavor is very forthright in the opening, making the hop bite in the conclusion far more subdued than expected. It's certainly not past its prime, which leads me to believe that this was meant to be a bit more reserved and balanced than most beers of this style. The warm, creamy conclusion and a hint of earthy pineyness remain in the throat, making for a passable and relatively tasty ale.

Liquid is pretty soft on the tongue for an IPA. Hop notes don't really resonate in the back of throat.

I feel like Rock Bottom is pretty conservative when it comes to IPAs and this is no certainly no exception. It's got some nice moments, but hop fanatics might want to look elsewhere.

First had: on tap at Rock Bottom, King of Prussia, PA

Rock Bottom's attempt at a west coast imperial IPA. Poured a slightly hazy golden brown with an ample, foamy white head that retained and laced well. Aroma of big hops all over, and not much else. I prepared myself for a Green Flash clone (and I love me some Green Flash). Big hop taste as well, an explosion of citrus and pine, with a barely detectable pale malt base. Crisp, fresh, and strong...not for those with weak palates. And at 7+% ABV, be wary of how much you're drinking. Medium bodied and quite drinkable for the style. Much better than the usual RB IPA option.

On tap at KOP, 9/16/11.

A-Pours a clear golden with very little white head.

S-Citrus hops and a bit of malt.

T-Nice citrus hoppiness with a solid malt base. Well balanced with moderate bitterness.

M-Light to medium bodied, crisp.

O-Very good. A nice representation of a West Coast style DIPA.
