Stopped by Laht Neppur after getting completely lost in Western Washington... Glad we drove through Waitsburg.

Pours very clear golden into a pint glass.. thin white head.. little lacing...

Nose is grainy pale malts.. subtle spicy hoppiness.. only hints of ale fruitiness.... pretty authentic.

Soft maltiness.. descent bitter backbone... again something that I can only describe as yeasty byproducts... finishes pretty dry... authentic and tasty.

Body is medium with a nice medium carbonation.

This was a very very well made Kolsch... Can't wait to crack into the Mason Jars I brought back!!

Another case of one beer tasting so much like another that I had to return to the bar to assure that the two weren’t accidentally crossed. Here the kölsch bears a strong resemblance to the apricot hefeweizen. Why would two such stylistically divergent beers taste so alike? Probably the same yeast, and a wheat adjunct wouldn’t surprise me either. The kölsch enjoys the same cloven nose and weizen peppery-ness with a deep, rusty apricot color. It’s a bit too dark, unfiltered, and edgy for the style, but an enjoyable beer nonetheless. Its main drawback is that it’s too similar to the hefe for a distinct appreciation.

On tap at Laht Neppur Ale House, Walla Walla, WA, 16 oz $4.50 poured into shaker pint glass 3.26.11.

Half finger white head, quick dissipation with minimal lacing. Clear deep gold body with a bit of chill haze, several streams of carbonation rising lazily to surface. Floral and grass hops in balance against good dose of bready malts. Taste mirrors nose, some lemony esters, a bit of white pepper, pretty nondescript but certainly refreshing. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, decent effervescence. Not the most memorable of beers, but I can see this being a nice summertime beer.
