Style: German Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our most popular beer, Märzen (Maert-zen) is a smooth, mildly sweet, auburn colored lager. This beer originated from Bavaria, where it was brewed in March (Marz in German) and stored in caves to be enjoyed during warmer weather. At the end of September, any remaining kegs of Märzen were consumed during the two week celebration which became famous as Oktoberfest. We hope you'll enjoy it year round.

Clear copper body with almost no head or lacing.

Very malty with big biscuit and mild roast aromas.

Sweet, but very mild when compared to the initial aroma. No hops detected.

This beer is a little too flat to have an enjoyable mouthfeel. Maybe I just got unlucky, but...

Good beer overall. Could be kicked up a little more in a couple areas to make it great, but good nonetheless.

A- Pours a clear copper color with an off white head that has pretty much no retention.

S- Bready malts and caramel malts but pretty weak here.

T- Sweet, bready and ends with a little bit of hop bitterness.

M- Medium in body and nice carbonation

D- Easy to drink, nothing terrible but also nothing to write home about. I just think there are better ones out there.

Had on tap at the restaurant.

Appearance is a nice dark copper with a 2 finger head and decent lace.

Smells like roasted malts. Little sweet smell. Not a lot on the nose.

Taste is roasted carmel malt balanced near perfectly against a mild hop profile. Great balance.

Mouth feel is medium body. Smooth. Very tasty.

Overall this is a great beer and the only brew worth ordering at Gordon Biersch in my opinion. Very tasty.

A - Nice translucent brown to gold color. Very nice foamy white head. Sticky thin lace.

S - Sweet smell which is almost roasty. Very malty and an almost honey hint.

T - Sweet and malty with a slight grassiness to it at the end. The after taste is also sweet with a slight dryness.

M - Medium bodied beer with a light carbonation and an almost smooth feel.

O - Decent Marzen style beer and great crisp flavor combined with it's medium body.

Draft, consumed at Gordon Biersch Pasadena on 12/03/07.

Tawny, clear amber. Active lacing with nice ring of foam around edges of glass. No aroma at all. Sweet, malty body with no real bitterness. Light, easy to drink. Dry without parching on the tongue.

a real easy drinker, to me this would be a perfect oktoberfest bier because of its sessionable qualities. the appearance is fully clear, pumpkin flesh orange with an obvious amber malt glow and a fluffy and patient bone white head. the nose is caramunich malts, as it should be, with only moderate sweetness and a really really creamy texture that slides effortlessly down the gullet one swig after another. theres also a slight fruity complexion to the yeast, but its tame, and it too gives way to the sweetness of the malt, which is less amber than it looked, and more caramel and classically german. i could drink this forever, its medium in body, but feels lighter because if its gentle glide. it also has fairly relaxed carbonation, which lets the heft of the body remain. to me this is a perfect fall beer which stays approriate in the winter too. this is one of the best regular beer on at gordon biersch by far i thought. only 4 bucks-ish during happy hour, how can you beat that? id buy this is a 6pack if i could.
