Enjoyed a 21 ounce glass full at Gordon Biersch, Virginia Beach. They give their beers different names. This one was called Klassibier at 5.7 .abv vice 5.4 as it says here. It is a Gordon Biersch Dunkle Lager a ll the same. Pours a fairly clear light brown color with reddish highlights. Nice size light tan head with good retention and plenty of filmy lacing on the big Weizen glass. Rich aroma of bready malt with hints of molasses, caramel and brown sugar coming through. Mouthfeel is crisp and rich, for a lager. Nice and smooth, with a light touch of bitterness in the finish. Very enjoyable, would have liked it better if it wasn't served ice cold.

A - Nice caramel darkness color. Clear.

S - Scents of honey and sweetness. Nice to the nose.

T - Unexpectedly good. Definitely got that honey flavor in there, and it was enjoyable. Some molasses too.

M - An easy beer going down.

O - I enjoyed this beer and would probably get another bottle.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a very light brown/dark copper color with an amazingly huge billowy off white head. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – A big caramel and brown sugar aroma are the bulk of the smell. These are mixed with some nice roasted malt and toasted aromas as well as a little bit of a nutty smell. Rounding out all these is a very light earthy and herbal hop as well, creating a very pleasant aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweet brown sugar and caramel flavor with a little bit of a toasted malt and a light grainy taste. The grain and malt are very light, largely being dominated by the sweeter flavors of the brew, which intensify even more after the initial taste with some other sweet flavors of a cola and molasses nature coming to the tongue. A little bit of a nut flavor develops right after the initial taste, with it then fading away toward the end due to the advent of the cola and molasses. Just a hint of herb is mixed into the taste leaving one with a very sweet, lightly roasted, and thin flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is quite thin with a carbonation level that is high. A thicker body would have certainly been better for accentuating the roasted and nut flavors of the brew and would have made it a bit less cloying.

Overall – A little too sweet in darker sugar flavors with not quite enough malt and roast to really support the sweet. A bit sweetly unbalanced.
