The color and aroma are almost perfect in regards to what a Hefeweizen should be. It is a bright straw yellow, moderate head, and definite hints of clove spice, with citrus and banana in the nose. The flavor is slightly incomplete as the banana taste isn't exactly prevalent in the taste up-front but it certainly does become more noticeable in the aftertaste. In the aftertaste you can sense a lot more of the citrus and wheat. Overall it is a pretty good Hef.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

Cloudy peach hued brew, great looking head. Hint of banana bread and taffy with some faint powdered clove and bandaids with some bread in the aroma. Crisp and smooth, fluffy medium body. Bready palate, banana pith and banana bread, mild clove spiciness, lands dry with some faint phenols. Crisp and balanced, pretty drinkable as well.

I've had other Gordon Biersch products but didn't particularly care for this one. It poured well with an average head. Smell was fairly nice but the taste didn't quite seem to match. Too many banana hints for me I guess, and almost a smokey flavor like a Scottish Ale or something.

Thought I'd try eating some pistachios with it to maybe help compliment the flavor but it didn't work.

Glad I had the experience but likely won't buy it again. (just my $.02)

On tap at the Atlanta brewpub. Not a favored style.

Look: hazy golden body with an off-white head.

Aroma: very fruity with a lot of citrus, some banana and a hint of yeast.

Flavor: follows the aroma. More citrus and less clove than average for style.

Mouthfeel: light-medium body and medium+ carbonation.

Overall: fruity hefe.

(Served in a wide-mouthed pint glass and no fruit)

A- There is a warm light brown glow to this hazy yellow body with a thick sticky white head on top that last for a good while. There is no sign of carbonation except a random bubble or two sticking to the glass.

S- The soft smell of bubble gum and wheat bread are pretty mellow with a soft note of pine hops to finish. The pine hops aroma seems to grow with each sip, but the other aromas do not.

T- The first taste is a full bubblegum flavor but it is not really obnoxious followed by some soft clove notes and a yeasty banana flavor. The finish is more pine hops but it is softer than the smell.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel which surprised me and a clean scrubbing bubble finish.

D- I would classify this as what an American Wheat beer should taste like, having nice hefeweizen flavors with American hops and much lighter and crisper that its German cousin.

This poured to a dark yellow with a small head that lasted well. There was no real lace.

The smell is of wheat with a light hint of yeast. The taste also has plenty of wheat. Esters dot the flavor nicely. The mouthfeel is medium, while drinkability is very good.

Bottled on date of 01/14/13

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, rustic orange with an off-white near 2-finger head. Fair retention. Spotty surface. Not much in the way of lacing, but not unusual for a hefe.

Smell - Citrus, bubblegum, banana and clove are are all there, and in abundance. This might be the most aromatic hefe I've ever had.

Taste - Clove spice, citrus and banana upfront and throughout. Bubblegum is hard to find on the tongue. Distant citrus pith bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with lively carbonation. Maybe too much. Semi-dry finish.

Overall - Hard to believe I hadn't picked this one up before. Regardless, this is a commendable example. If the carbonation was a tad less prickly and with a touch more bubblegum found in the flavor as it is with the nose, this would be right up there with the best of them. Regardless, don't miss out if you see this. Grab one!
