Dull, cloudy yellow/amber with a tight, white cap. Some lacing. Bready aroma with a bit of clove and lemon. Malty and bready flavour with a bit of lemon, clove and citrus, plus light banana character in the finish. Medium body that lightened towards the end. Carbonation was on the high side, giving an acidic bite. A pretty average offering. Drinkable and approachable, but lacking a bit in overall character.

I had 1/2 pint from the Gordon Biersch booth at the Columbus Microbrew Festival 2006. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was, they did a good job. The aroma and flavor was all bananas and cloves, the only real drawback was that this seemed more watery than it should be. Still, it was good.

Served on tap in a pilsner glass

Appearance – The beer is served a hazy yellow-straw color with a thick and billowy white head of three finger height. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is quite heavy of wheat and yeast. Along with these smells are aromas of coriander and clove as well as a little bit of a lemon and orange smells. Some sweet aroma, other then the citrus, are there as well with notes of bubblegum and some caramel.

Taste – The taste begins with a rather bready and slightly grainy wheat flavor. Along with these tastes there is also flavors of orange and lemon right from the start. As the flavors advance, a yeasty and spicy flavor come to the tongue; with the spice mostly of clove and coriander, as would have been expected from the nose. Shortly following these tastes, a light banana comes to the tongue with the graininess becoming almost entirely subdued. The mix of resulting flavors takes the taste to its end where a rather smooth Hefe flavor is left to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the lighter and slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher to average side. Both are quite appropriate for the wheat, yeast, and spice flavors of the brew and make a very easy drinking Hefeweizen; just as a Hefe of 5.5 % abv should be.

Overall – A rather good Hefeweizen overall. Very easy drinking with a nice blend of flavors.

A: Pours a cloudy golden/orange color. A two finger white head forms, but recedes in a second. Little lace.
S: Dominated by clove and banana. Nothing else. Not bad, but blah.
T: Banana and spicy clove. Again, not bad, but bland.
M/D: A medium body that has a little to much carbonation. Thin and watery. Not hard to drink. Quaffable for what it is.

Another bland ofering. Nothing much to note. Not the worst thing ever, but much better hefe's are out there.

Pours a standard for the style, cloudy yellow with nice one finger head. Aroma of funky yeast and very strong banana. Taste follows with lots of banana, yeast funk, and a tad of bitterness. Not as sweet as some I have had, and I think this is actually very well done. Easy drinking and refreshing. Medium to high carbonation that gives is a nice bubbly feel for the summer days. Definitely one to try if at the restaurant.

Color is cloudy and yellow-brown, rather like honey; head is thick. Aroma has a strong citrus overtone and some wheaty scent. Taste is a very strong and pleasant hefeweizen taste, quite lemony with wheat and hoppy components. It goes down easily and is very pleasant to drink, with or without a wedge of lemon.

Enjoyed on tap at the San Jose location with dinner, this brew was a completely cloudy iced tea color with a fair white head and no lacing. I can smell bubblegum wheat, pretty sturdy and standard faire. The flavor is very much the same, sweet with mild but full carbonation. Mid-body for the style with a pretty luscious feel. Very drinkable as you would expect. Solid but not particularly remarkable.

On draught at the brewpub, served in a gold-rimmed Weizen glass. Hazy dark amber/golden color with a thick and fluffy off-white head. Thin and sticky lacing. Aroma of yeast and bananas. Medium-bodied and slick with flavors of wheat, banana and yeast. The finish is clean but kind of watery, with wheat and a bit of spice aftertaste. Above average overall, and honestly better than I was expecting.

Served on tap at the GBBR at the RDU airport main terminal. They did not serve with a lemon, which I appreciated.

Pours a cloudy pale golden color with small white foam. Clings to the side. Wheaty smell, but just so-so. Strong banana taste, followed by the wheat. Very smooth, banana in the finish too. Leaves some sweetness at the end.

Very good hefe, really drinkable.

A generous pour yielded me a gigantic off white head that didn't stick around long. It is orange in the middle with golden highlights. It is cloudy. It smells like banana cream with clove and other spiciness. The mouthfeel is very smooth. No particular taste overpowers another. The banana and spices meld quite nicely. I find this beer very palatable. I didn't expect much coming from GB. I would probably seek this out again.

Had this at Reagan National Airport. No fruit in glass.

A - Pours a cloudy golden color, one finger white head receded to a thin layer on top. Minimal lacing.

S - Citrus, slight banana and even slighter clove.

T - Good wheaty taste, slight banana and clove and a little orange. Would give it a 3.75 in this category if I could.

M - Creamy and smooth, good carbonation.

O - I have quite frequently been disappointed by their beer but this is one of the better GB offerings, which is good because I like their food. Could and would drink multiples. Would give it a 3.75 in this category if I could.

Sampled on tap at the Las Vegas brewpub.

This hefeweizen poured a cloudy, yellow color with white foam that settled. The smell was modest banana. The taste was bananas and wheat malt with some yeast and a bit of citrus tartness. Good balance overall. The mouthfeel was smooth, creamy, and dry with medium-light body and low carbonation. The flavor lingered pleasantly. This was a good hefeweizen, though a tad thin.

Presented as a cloudy yellow beer with white puffy head. Smell is appropriate for the style with strong notes of spices (cloves, corriander) and bananas. Very weel done. Taste follows throufgh on the smml with bananas, cloves, and bubble gum dominating. Very good example of the style, very refreshing.

One of the line of Gordon Biersch beers that have just appeared in Texas. It has a nice orange-gold color, though little head appeared and that quickly faded away. Nice aroma though--fruity, sure, but the spicy phenolic side has the upper hand. Very good flavor, with a lightly sweet wheat malt initially, bubble-gum fruitiness, and a solid clovey, peppery spiciness--much like Franziskaner. More carbonation would help the mouthfeel.

Solid hefe here... the other two GB beers that appears in Texas (marzen and blonde bock) are pretty bland, but this one is very good.

Very nice hefe. Served in a weizen glass (no orange slice, this is a beer place!) Straw colored, hazy, big white carbonated head that dies down quickly. Minimum lacing. All the good hefe attributes: astringent, carbonation, cloves, banana, bubble gum in a crisp, very nicely balanced beer. I had a couple with dinner and they went down very easily. Nicely balanced, rich mouthfeel and very drinkable. A very nice representative of this style.

Pours a darker shade of hazy golden compared to most other Hefe-Weizens. Plenty of creamy white head on top though. Lovely aromas of banana and clove, and this example seems to have more clove spice than most others. Palate offers a good balance of wheat & the signature banana/clove. Finishes somewhat clean. Very refreshing & drinkable. One of their best offerings.

The Hefe was a nice cloudy yellow with a very good head.

The nose was as expected. Lots of banana & clove scent with a bit of wheat malt as well. It has a nice earthy aroma.

The taste was not quite as good as the smell. It reminded me a bit of those banana bubble gum cigars that you got as a kid. The beer, while not terrible by any means was a bit out of balance.

The mouthfeel was nice and slick and the carbonation was perfect for this style. It was easy to drink and if they could tone down the banana fruit taste a bit and up the malt for balance, it would be a very fine beer.

Had this after a mountain bike ride. Fairly refreshing. Pours a bright gold, with a bit of yeast haze... but not as much as I like.

Aromas were faint but pleasant. A hint of banana and yeast.

Flavors followed the aromas. A bit of banana, and a bit of a yeast like quality, but the flavors are somewhat subtle. I was yearning for more.

Mouthfeel was very average for a Hefe, but the beer was certainly drinkable. I wouldn't turn one down, but I wouldn't buy another one either.

Appearance: Dark yellow golden in color, with a massive, dense, and persistent white head. There is a moderate amount of suspended sediment. The lacing is thick and patchy.

Aroma: Lots of tart wheat and grapefruit rind hops, no banana notes, and only modest cloves.

Taste: Solid wheat malt from start to finish. This is not to be understated, the malt presence is remarkably solid. Cloves are present, but not to the extent expected, there is a banana note, but it is faint. Finishes with tart wheat, some very mild herbal hops, and a late wave of cloves.

Mouth feel: Smooth and solid, very, very full.

Drinkability/notes: A very good, well-crafted example.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass long neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a standard Pilsener glass.

Poured from a tap into a hefeweizen glass. Poured a honeycomb flavor with about an inch of foam that stayed for awhile. Smelled sour with a touch of citrus and wheat. Highly carbonated for a hefeweizen. Had a caramel taste to it. Not that much of a taste compared to other hefeweizens.

I had this one on tap over at the Tysons Corner location before going to see "Thor."

A: Mildly cloudy (but not too), one finger head that stayed afloat for a reasonable time before fading.

S: Lemon, banana, and clove. The clove was the clear winner!

T: All of the afore-mentioned ingredients seemed a tad watered-down, but still enjoyable.

M: Extremely carbonated.... maybe even too much even. Nice tempered sweetness and the spices gave the brew quite a kick overall.

O: Good, but not great. I'll still revisit this one during the heat of summer.

Bottled on date of 01/14/13

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, rustic orange with an off-white near 2-finger head. Fair retention. Spotty surface. Not much in the way of lacing, but not unusual for a hefe.

Smell - Citrus, bubblegum, banana and clove are are all there, and in abundance. This might be the most aromatic hefe I've ever had.

Taste - Clove spice, citrus and banana upfront and throughout. Bubblegum is hard to find on the tongue. Distant citrus pith bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with lively carbonation. Maybe too much. Semi-dry finish.

Overall - Hard to believe I hadn't picked this one up before. Regardless, this is a commendable example. If the carbonation was a tad less prickly and with a touch more bubblegum found in the flavor as it is with the nose, this would be right up there with the best of them. Regardless, don't miss out if you see this. Grab one!

On-tap at the Phoenix Airport.

Absolutely gorgeous pour: thick, cream-colored head atop an utterly hazy, orangish golden-amber body. Great head retention and a good depth to the color, as some brown creeps in near the center. In my book, this is how a hefeweizen should look. The aroma is packed with sweet, rich, bready yeast notes, lemon peel, lots of malt, and a bit of a wooden earthiness.

The flavor is interesting. Creamy vanilla, banana, and zesty citrus balance the sweetness of its earthy malts. A hint of whipped cream is thrown in for good measure. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, and the body is of medium thickness. Aftertaste is a bit bland, but it's an excusable downside of the Hefeweizen style. This is an outstanding beer. I really didn't care for most of the German-inspired Gordon Biersch stuff that I'd tried, but for this style, they hit the nail on the head.

A- Pours a bright, yet hazy golden, with a one and a half finger white head that retains well and leaves one ring of lacing.
S- Wheat, slight banana, touch of clove.
T- In the flavor, there is much more bubble gum than there is banana. Clove flavor is noticable, but understated. A faint sourness to it as well.
M- Crisp, but I found it underweighted.
D- A mediocre hefe I feel. More spice flavor and more body would have done this beer well.
