Notes / Commercial Description:
A traditional "Helles" or pale bock beer, Blonde Bock is a medium hopped beer with a rich, malty flavor. Made popular in the early 1600s, bock beers were originally brewed by monks to minimize hunger pangs during fasting periods. Most bock beers are dark in color. Our Gordon Biersch Blonde Bock is golden with a creamy head.

From the back label: "BOTTLED ON: 09:56 242 04/07/17"

Appearance: The body has fantastic clarity. It is a nice medium shade of gold with hints of orange-brown and lighter gold. The head is very large and rocky with a pure white appearance. Great retention and lacing. It looks a bit darker than normal but it still looks amazing in the glass.

Aroma: I get an odd aroma that I can only describe as dog food. Every time the glass is pulled back and re-approached there is this light bit of spicy yeast that comes through but it is immediately replaced with that dog food smell. Odd...

Taste: There is a light and slightly toasted caramel flavor, a touch of alcohol, and some herbal hop flavor, This flavor carries from start to finish. The strongest flavor at the beginning is the toasted caramel. The strongest finishing flavor comes from the herbal hops.

Mouthfeel: It has a good medium mouthfeel that has just a light bit of texture and a nice bitter bite from the lightly roasted grains and the hops. It remains an interesting beer solely because of the mouthfeel.

Overall: That awful dog food aroma never goes away at any point and for that reason alone I would not recommend the beer. While it does have a lot of redeeming qualities it is really hard to get over a bad aroma. I would probably turn down this beer if somebody gave it to me.

You get a big white head on top of the cloudy yellow pour, but the retention was substandard. Aroma was the worst part of the beer, lots of alcohol noticeable with a puree of yeast fruit that seemed misplaced.

Taste was still pushed by alcohol peeking through everything else, but it at least brought some grain aspect to try and distract from the heat. Some hop bitterness to it, again seems misplaced.

Seems like it would be a lot better if it were 1-2% less abv.

On tap at Oakland airport. Light copper body, minimal head. Sweet malt aroma, taste follows with more sweet malt, honey. Body is fantastic, slick, slippery. Shame they serve it ice cold.

A tasty beer that does not wow. Deepish colour with a decent head and a sweet and pleasantly floral aroma. First taste is pleasant with a decent amount of malt followed by a pleasant, very American, hop kick. Not up to the standard of its European equivalents. The aftertaste is not lingering. Good but not inspiring.

Bready, Sweet, Clean, Bold

A beautiful looking beer showing just as much clarity and glow as it shows on the palate in cleanliness. Layers of malt take a several sips to open up, a breath of alcohol comes off desirable. One sweet side to start, hoppiness kicks in about half way then the rounded character of the maltiness finishes off with a dose of breadiness. Our noses and palates hoped for a bit more hop character but this brew will do.
