Czech Pilsner is a crisp, golden, highly hopped lager. This style beer was first brewed in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia in 1842 using a sample of special yeast smuggled from Germany by a Czech monk. Until this time all beers were dark and cloudy. The new Czech Pilsner was the first beer to be brewed clear and golden.

Kind of rushed this review as I thought I had already reviewed it and I was at dinner. Really wanted to get back to trying some of these Gordon Biersch beers since I was not reviewing some of these true to style.

Poured a medium yellow clear color with three fingers of rocky white head when I got it. A few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Very good foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled corn, hay, grass and honey. Not getting much spice from the Saaz hops as I would have thought. Definitely could tell it was a pilsner. (Smell - 3.50)

Taste followed the nose, getting hay, grass, honey and some spicy Saaz, but not as much pepper as I would have thought. (Taste - 3.50)

Light body. Thin texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, crisp finish. (Feel - 3.75)

This was a good Czech Pilsner, but not great. (Overall - 3.50)

For the style. A clear golden with minor bubbles rising, and a small white head that recedes quickly to a thin layer. Minor lacing. Aroma is hoppy! Grassy/hay, almost a tamale husk/corn scent, and crackery/bready malt. Same with the flavor, nice doughy, bready quality, and the above mentioned hop notes. Medium body for the style, full carbonation, and dry on the finish. Aroma is great. Full, hoppy, and bready. Flavor is good, as well, but the nose is out there, in a good way.

Clear golden color
Light mouthfeel
Medium carbonation
Very light hops taste, mainly watery with just a touch of bitterness
Overall not one that I would buy again.

Poured on draft at the Gordon Biersch restaurant and brewery in the ATL airport.

Honestly this is a great representation of the bohemian Pilsner style. Very crisp and refreshing with the clean lager finish. It has an awesome malt balance with a bitter hop bite. I could drink this all day.
