Notes / Commercial Description:
Czech Pilsner is a crisp, golden, highly hopped lager. This style beer was first brewed in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia in 1842 using a sample of special yeast smuggled from Germany by a Czech monk. Until this time all beers were dark and cloudy. The new Czech Pilsner was the first beer to be brewed clear and golden.

Clear golden colored beer with a middle sized puffy white colored head.

Smells malty with a flowery hop aroma. Soda cracker malt with noble hops somewhat grassy it also smells a little sweet.

Starts out mildly sweet and a little bitter. Slightly grassy this has a sharper hop bite than expected. and that is about it, sort of boring.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall an OK beer.

From GB Rockville.

Rich golden color, very nice clarity. Poured a moderate white head with little retention, but could have been my wimpy pour from the growler.

Very clean hop aroma with some pepper notes, and maybe a slight malty sweetness.

Wonderful malt presentation up front just before the hops begin to take hold. Always enjoy a pilsner that shows some malt. Wonderful spicy, almost peppery flavor from the hops. Hops take it to the bitter side of balanced, but the bitterness isn't overpowering. Finish is gently bitter and clean. Beer appears to have been well lagered.

Medium body and moderately high carbonation. No harshness to the beer - very easy drinking.

Nice to see what fresh, well made pilsner tastes like. Hop character is top notch, and it is a clean, easy drinking beer with no rough edges.

Appearance: Bright gold with a quickly disappearing head and a touch of carbonation.

Smell: Indistinct malts and hops. Basically, it smells like beer.

Taste: Hops and cereal malts.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a slight hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

The Verdict: Not bad. My descriptions may not sound exciting, but this is pretty much what a pils should be. Nothing above and beyond, but nothing to fuss about either. Just a good solid beer.

A - Pours a light golden/copper color with finger thick head. Not much lacing.

S - Hop and malt scent. Pretty pungent.

T - Light hop bitterness with malt on the finish, also hints of citrus. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

M - Feels light in the mouth. Not too much carbonation, goes down easy.

O - Not a big pilsner drinker but I didn't mind this one. I don't have much to compare it to, but I wouldn't mind drinking it again. I probably wouldn't pick up a six pack of it, though. If you try it don't expect a world class beer, but its nothing bad.
